Do we know how long until they let you know whether you're through to next stage. I did my WG test before 10th Dec but have not heard anything since :(

    Common mistakes on application forms.....

Thanks Jessica, it’s reassuring to hear things from your perspective - definite confidence boost when it comes to writing these pesky apps!

    Common mistakes on application forms.....

Just when you see advice on their websites about “use the word count”. Like one particular firm I remember left 500 words for hobbies/extra curricular/interests. I mean, if you work full time and have a long commute to work and not a lot of disposable income, in this day and age, it can be...

    Common mistakes on application forms.....

What’s your opinion on writing in prose? I get the feeling a lot of TC applicants tend to not to write how they would actually speak. Also why are firms so keen on candidates utilising the word count and question candidates who don’t use it all.

Norton Rose Fulbright Winter Vac App

Thanks Jessica. What’s your view on candidates applying to firms who narrowly miss the A-level criteria. I had this situation with Bakers and made it through despite not having the academics they state on their website but suspect their contextualised recruitment tool helped. It’s hard to...

Norton Rose Fulbright Winter Vac App

Hi, I’m applying for 2019 Winter Vac at NRF and am a bit stumped on a few points for their app. 1.) They don’t appear to have an Alevel or UCAS requirement anymore, is this the case; 2.) In the form the only Q this year is a 750 word cover letter. As it is within the form should it be addressed...

    Least time consuming initial applications?

You mentioned 4000 words for Pinsents, is this respectively for each question or the overall total. Seems pretty unreasonable to expect candidates to write 4000 words for every app question, can’t imagine HR find that much fun reading them either if they are that long

    Mishcon de Reya issue question

I think talking about cuts to legal aid would be great if you can talk passionately about it, you could tie it into how it’s transformed the market for legal services and how more firms are competing for work in areas such as property and private client/weath, especially as Mishcon’s has a...

    Hogan Lovells question

I haven’t come about to it yet. So far I’ve put together a few notes about a mentoring scheme I’m involved in in coaching students, I intend to discuss my experiences in relation to managing time but also making a commitment to someone else as I am coaching undergrads/managing this amongst...

    Hogan Lovells question

Thanks Jessica, I know the question isn't asking for it, but should I attempt to link back my experience to the firm in any way or should I literally just be answering the question as it states

    Hogan Lovells question

I think you're right, how best would you approach the question?

    Hogan Lovells question

If I'm honest I really can't think of anything recent. The last time can think of a real workable example was when I set aside time to coach a recent graduate, assist with CV and cover letter drafting, as well as answering questions about obtaining Paralegal work. But still not sure if this...

    Hogan Lovells question

I have to admit Jessica this question got me and I can’t really think of any proper examples except in work, when last minute matters occur/last minute instructions are given. Had a situation recently of having only 10 minutes to prepare/serve notice on a matter, it literally required dropping...
