    Linklaters 2019/20 Application

No, definitely not the case. I got my TC with Links following a VS and they managed to give me a spot on an intake the following year, so I will start a year earlier than the original TC year I applied for. Someone else on my VS was offered a spot in an earlier intake too. It depends on space...

Everyone's saying it's over for me & I haven't even began my journey

Hey, I was in a really similar position to you in terms of grades and attending a non RG uni and I’m starting my TC at a magic circle firm in the next couple of months. I would really echo what everyone else has said so far - it will be a little more difficult to secure a TC at a commercial law...

    Linklaters 2019/20 Application

Hey, I was in your situation when applying for Links’ winter VS last year - I was working as a paralegal at a different magic circle firm. I would just make your supervisor aware that you’re applying early on so that it’s not a surprise if you get onto the scheme. I had to use annual leave and...

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

I’ll be 28 when I start my TC and there’s someone on my intake (at a magic circle firm) in their 50s! I’m also a paralegal at a (different) magic circle firm and there are lots of trainees in their late twenties. I also work with someone who qualified at 35. I totally get the worry about...

    Linklaters 2019/20 Application

Definitely non-rolling. I applied on the deadline for the winter VS last year! As mentioned by others, penultimate year students had until September to decide whether to accept but I believe the rest of us only had a month.

    Linklaters 2019/20 Application

Not sure the last bit about different attributes is accurate - I got my TC with Links in the last application round and a lot of us on the AC/VS discussed our CAPP results. There was a broad range of strengths and weaknesses between us. I think it’s more to do with how highly you score for each...

    Retrospective Funding

As I did it at Ulaw, the LLM didn’t cost any extra. My firm reimbursed the whole sum that I paid but as Jessica says, I’m sure it varies from firm to firm!

    Retrospective Funding

I did this and I just had to send my firm evidence of the fees I paid (an invoice stating ‘paid’) and they just transferred the funds to my bank account. They didn’t ask for details of how I funded it and it’s my responsibility to repay the loan etc.

    Retrospective Funding

Sure, recently accepted a TC with Links and I finished my LPC a couple of years ago. Have been reimbursed in full :)

Motivation for those without stellar academics

Aw thank you for such kind words! Please do feel free to drop me a message if I can help at all if you’re applying for vac schemes or TCs. You’ve also got this!

Motivation for those without stellar academics

Completely understand, I know some people think they can be something of double-edged sword or not really considered. If you’re concerned, you could always contact rec before applying to discuss - I think you can often tell a lot from their answers. I’ve occasionally had responses in the past...

Adding to this list that Linklaters refund fees in full, as do Clifford Chance.

    Ask Shearman & Sterling Anything!

Hi Paul I was wondering if you could give us an insight into graduate recruitment discussions following the economic repercussions of Covid19. Do you think it’s likely that firms will be reducing the number of trainees they take on and potentially rescinding TC offers or start dates? I...
