TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2025-26

Hi,
Is anyone applying to Preston Turnbull? If so, how long will your email be?
All they say is " Please send an email setting out why you are interested in a career in law, and your particular interest in Preston Turnbull, together with a copy of your CV."
I am just confused about how long my email should be.
Also @Abbie Whitlock if you have advice regarding this .

Kind of crazy they ask this I’ve never seen this in an app before?

I mean if you don’t tell them and it comes out later on, it would likely be seen as dishonesty. I guess it somewhat depends what their intentions are when asking this question.

If you tell them and they reject you, would you really want to be at that firm?

I think having counselling for a personal issue and disciplinary action for conduct that affects your job are two very different things…

Not sure what you should do but this question is literally the reaosn why I did not apply to them last year. I think it's really private and a very weird thing to ask. People can, for example, go to counselling for a variety of reasons and I don't think firms are entitled to know every little bit of your private life.
Anyway just a rant.

Regarding the "lying", applications usually have a statement at the end saying that you acknowledge that everything you said was true so not sure whether they could do anything if they learnt you lied... although quite unlikely they would unless you told them later

It sounds like if you did not disclose this it would count as lying…

EDIT: I guess the answer lies in the term “required”, were you made to receive treatment as part of some sort of action plan or did you undertake it spontaneously?
Thank you for your replies, appreciate the insight, advice, and simply knowing that I am not alone in thinking that this was a jarring question! Though guess I'll have to bite the bullet and paint a picture

And yes, I was technically "required" to seek treatment but it was not cause of a school/ employer.

This sounds a lot like a CV + cover letter situation. Probably write in a word doc and try to keep under a page (500ish words)

Has anyone who has done Shortlister practice interviews been able to see the AI generated feedback on them? It is supposed to arrive within 10 minutes of completing the practice interview but I haven't found any feedback anywhere? @WillKitchen ? Thank you!

Addleshaw Goddard VI. My question is, they’re saying that they operate on a blind recruitment policy- in the email it says the video isn’t sent to them, only the audio, it is a voice interview but the camera is on but the recording isn’t sent to them. Does that mean I can cover my camera? My adhd is bad and I tend to look at myself instead of the camera.

Also anyone any insight about the questions? Thanks.

Have done VI and AC for Dentons, PM,and can offer insight about Bird&Bird and Dechert.

When asked ab an interesting news story what exactly is the interviewer acc looking for? I get you have to link it to the firm and its sectors is that it?
Something showing 1) commercial awareness and 2) firm awareness. So let’s say that your story is a lateral hire firm a is hiring a partner from firm b. So on the surface that’s interesting but what is the broader trend? Why might the first term be trying to build out a certain practice area? Let’s say private credit infrastructure energy arbitration? And if we take the example of private credit, you might say that in recent years it’s emerged as a as an attractive alternative to public M&A and IPOs, especially with the UK somewhat frosty IPO market.

As for where you get these stories I think Thomson Reuters is quite good along with the lawyer capital T capital L. I’m not asking you to subscribe to the paid version but what I would suggest is the headlines you paste the headlines into the browser. You’ll get a free version of the stories.
