Has anyone heard of a case of successfully leveraging a VS offer from one firm to advantage applications at another?

Hi everyone, I hope this finds you well.

As the title says, has anyone heard of a case of successfully leveraging a VS offer from one firm to advantage applications at another?

I.e. sending an email to grad rec explaining that you've received a VS offer for the same period, have x weeks to confirm, but are very keen on their firm and wondering if they are still considering your application.

Hiya, I wouldn't necessarily say that the VS offer would leverage or 'advantage' your application. Firms understand that you will be applying to multiple places and therefore may end up with clashing dates, and from my experience/friends experience, they are often willing to either move you onto another scheme (e.g. moving onto summer instead of spring) if you have had to accept another offer from firm 1 before firm 2 is able to come back to you.
Ultimately I think its a case of communication rather than trying to leverage other VS offers. I would also note the size of the firm's intake for VS - the larger the firm the less likely they will be able to speed up considering your application as they may have more set timelines, whereas a smaller intake may be more flexible to consider your application sooner if they know you have another offer. So you may use your judgement to reach out to grad rec, but I would view this as gaining clarification on your next steps rather than advantaging your application. Hope this is helpful!

Informative and detailed Anna, thank you.
