I kinda feel like the teaching isn't even that important - like.... you can learn this stuff off of youtube and textbooks. I did PGDL (actually MA) at Ulaw and SQE on my own and mostly the PGDL was just a way to set fire to £15k.

I’m confused - don’t all non-law graduates have to do PGDL? I thought that was my only option? Doesn’t it kind of condense parts of a law degree so you can the do SQE?

Under the SQE route, you don’t have to, but most (if not all) firms want you to any way.

If a firm asks why you want to train at that firm, and you want to talk about the breadth of experience you can get and the fact that you can work in more diverse areas like leisure and retail, how would you recommend approaching this? I was thinking of linking this to my modules this year at university and how I picked them to broaden my thinking and experiences, but I'm unsure if that would even work and, if so, how to write a cohesive answer. I hope this makes sense haha, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am doing well, thank you - I hope you are too!

I‘d say that makes sense! Overall, I’d keep it simple and structured - you could:

• Start with the firm and briefly mention their strength across diverse sectors (e.g. leisure, retail, etc.) and show that you understand what this means for trainees at the firm (i.e. they gain exposure to a wide range of areas)
• Then explain why that breadth matters to you - this is where your modules line works really well! I’d say that rather than just saying you wanted variety, I’d frame it as a pattern and a conscious choice (e.g. “At university, I‘ve deliberately chosen modules across different areas because I enjoy developing a broader perspective and understanding how different areas of law interact with each other”)

I’d say that your answer should cover the firm, why it is distinctive, and why that suits how you think and make decisions.
