I don't agree that they should be, but I think it's a sad reality that for *some* firms...they definitely are 😒. There are definitely factors that are a much better indicator of someone's ability to become a lawyer than the university they attended.
For some employers though, I imagine they...
I second that. It was extremely emotionally draining some days. I would have meetings or calls that lasted like 3-4 hours - because of the emotional nature you had to be really empathetic and take things at their pace. I really do think to get into this are (or family law) you need to have a...
Massive congratulations!
Although I can't say it's an area of law I want to practice in, I agree with lots of things you've said. I used to work in a team for a bank that dealt with wealthy individuals and bereavement etc. Lots of issues often related to very complex and emotional matters. Such...
In my opinion that's maybe a little too vague and I would try and opt for something more specific that you can give a better structure to. But I'm not 100% certain. Maybe @Jessica Booker has some thoughts? ☺️
Although saying that, I don't really know what Pinsent's are expecting from us...
I asked this the other day. However, I'm really struggling to flesh it out as a genuine answer to reach (or be close to) the 500 word limit. However, the question specifies the achievement has to be in the past 2 years and well...I've had a horrible past two years so there's no other...
Congratulations, Mel. That's so amazing - I am so ridiculously proud of your perseverance. You deserve this so much.
Hopefully you can celebrate this week! 🎊
This is very true.
However, I'm sure providing a little feedback to people who have invested lots of time and research into their firm would go a long way reputation wise! Treatment of potential employees, clients and others can have much more of a positive impact than most paid advertisements...
I'll do that, should it ever become a problem - I didn't want them to assume I had failed. Do you think it would be reasonable for me to ask (if they pushed my VS to the summer of the following year) if I could still be considered for the TC for 2023? It's very important to me and my...
Thank you as always. Would you say it's worth disclosing why exams have been pushed back in these circumstances? In the case of DAC Beachcroft I think their VS forms part of their recruitment process, so I guess it's more likely they'd just put me on the one the following summer.
Can absolutely vouch for the point about law societies. When I was president of a RG law soc, firms would actively seek out dropping thousands just for you to promote their presence across campus in the most minuscule ways.
That's going to feel like an awfully long time to hear back! I'm kind of hoping they'll hold the actual scheme in July or something (considering I had to push one of my exams to August due to bereavement).
@Jessica Booker - is it likely that a firm would take circumstances like this seriously...
I absolutely agree with all of this, too. The least any company, law firm or employer can do is feedback if you're unsuccessful (after you've reached a reasonable stage in the process).
I'm sure some people don't agree as strongly on this point, but bad practices and recruitment REALLY puts me...
I'm sure it's somewhere in emails we've been given, but does anyone know when DAC Beachcroft intends to hold their VS? I didn't even know it formed part of the TC process and it's going to be super tricky to get the time off
(If I'm lucky enough to get past VI) ✨
That's great!
What I was trying to convey though is that you don't have to. For some people hitting a 4000 character word limit on hobbies might be hard to do! Explaining yourself clearly and concisely depends on a number of things, how many points you have, what you want to discuss etc! It's...
I think writing until you feel you have included all the information that is relevant is a good method to follow. Anything more than that will just sound waffley and wordy. An answer that's 350-400 words of quality is better than 500 of nothing! Besides, being clear and explaining yourself...
Ahhh, I thought this was a different question - clearly I've just paraphrased it haha!
Also, I think a big project at work is a great example - but I think you'd have to mention why you were extremely passionate about that (as opposed to other projects you've worked on!). ☺️
