Should I disclose a TC to firms?

Presumably you haven't accepted the training contract offer?

    TCLA's 2021 Scholarship Programme

Hey everyone, I'm very happy to announce the biggest scholarship programme we've ever run. 85 scholarships are available, valued at £9,000. We don’t want your financial situation or your circumstances to be a barrier to accessing our best resources. We thought deeply about how we could...

Talk about a commercial issue and how it impacts the firm

It really depends on the question. Sometimes, a firm will ask you about a news story that interests you or that caught your attention. In that case, I would suggest choosing a topic that genuinely interests you and one that you've read about fairly extensively so that you can handle any follow...

    2020-21 Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion

Sorry I didn't see this on time but the comments above are great. Definitely worth asking if you could have made notes and then summarised this for the partner's use - this is something I frequently did as a trainee. Even if that's not an option, I'd make notes and ask the partner a couple of...

    Bird & Bird application answer

I’d think about the innovations taking place at the moment that affect the legal sector, and I’d consider which you think will impact Bird & Bird the most over the next five years. Legal technology is definitely a popular answer to this question, so if you wanted to go down that route, you’d...

Contacting HR over possible errors in test

As you've passed the test, I don't really see an issue with you providing feedback to the firm. The way you've explained this here sounds like you are just hoping to clarify things for future candidates. If you do decide to go ahead, and need someone to check over the way you phrase an email...

Non-law student help - is competition good?

I'm assuming this question was put in the context of competition law, rather than just being a question why competition is generally good or bad. Looking at this question strictly from a competition law perspective, and put very simplistically, more competition is attractive because it would...

Contacting HR over possible errors in test

Sounds like a nightmare test. Personally, I think it would be worth waiting until after you have learned about the outcome if you haven't already. I don't think it'll be a problem providing feedback on the test, particularly if you word your email in the right way, but I'd still play it safe.

    Commercial Awareness Discussion Thread

A sad day for Debenhams after attempts to rescue the company/seek a buyer have not been successful. The company's 124 shops will cease trading and 12,000 employees are likely to lose their jos: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55142724. We actually used Debenhams as a case study to explore...

    Slaughter & May Winter workshop

A huge well done to everyone who made it on. If you didn't, I know that's incredibly tough after all this waiting, so I hope you hang in there. No doubt you will go on to secure many more workshops/schemes/training contracts.

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

I think it's very hard to identify specific firms for this. Some will mention this at open days (NRF did for me back in the day), but I would just aim to have zero typos. This is different to having zero grammar/inconsistency mistakes, I feel there is more leeway there. Either way, we very very...

    Slaughter & May Winter workshop

Okay understood and I can see why that's frustrating. In that case, I'm afraid I don't have much value to add here. It sounds like the firm is just floored with reviewing applications. As John said, I'd have your cover letters ready to go in case you hear back before the TC deadline.

    Slaughter & May Winter workshop

Could you show me where the firm has said that? From their FAQ, it sounds to me that if you want to apply for a TC and you feel ready to apply for one, you should go for it - especially if you want to maximise your chances when it comes to the availability of places. The exception to that is if...

    Slaughter & May Winter workshop

Has the firm said that you definitely cannot apply for a TC while you are waiting to hear the outcome?

    Slaughter & May Winter workshop

Could you explain the situation? From what I can see, you guys are waiting to hear back about the workshop, but you have been told not to apply for a TC until you hear back?

    2020-21 Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion

Yep I'd answer however you see fit based on your understanding of the firm.
