I'll post this from advice I have already given before:
As someone who is going through their first cycles and just did their first ACs, my advice is to know the firm and know yourself.
Find insight into the firm's AC process as every firm is different but some things are consistent. One is...
Hello Jessica Pearson here. Lovely to see you Lord Sumption.
I would say that if you wanted to state something like this, frame it as some motivation to engage in complex work that intellectually stimulates you. Don't necessarily say that you want to stay past 1am but imply that you are...
Have a good rest. Look at some of my AC advice (if you can find it). I haven't done Mishcon before but someone might have. Look at what people and the firm say about how their AC is structured. Revise your application and familiarise yourself with your research (again).

no harm in applying in my book esp. as you have legal work experience. Just note that imo DTC should be a lot more tailored as the firm will not have as much of a chance to see why you in a VS
I can't lie if this is a follow-up post app (before AC or VS) then I would not bother. If this is a situation where you might be on a list then you could. In my mind, the firm will decide what they are going to decide so I don't bother messaging them :)
