TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2023-24

Congratulations! What's this for? I applied for the summer VS close to opening and have not heard back at all.

TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2023-24

It might also depend on whether it's a TC or VS application. My understanding is that (at least for the VS) there's a generalised Amberjack assessment, followed by four VI questions - was this your experience?

TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2023-24

Was this for Stephenson Harwood? I suppose the presence/absence of the VI component is firm dependent, but SH is supposed to include it this year...?

TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2023-24

Hi all, Not sure if this has been discussed before but is the Freshfields WG invite automatic, or is it only sent after an application is read and progressed? I applied for the Winter TC intake if that matters.

TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2022-23

To anybody who has received an Osborne Clarke VS invitation and accepted - has grad rec gotten back to you? I accepted last Thursday but I'm concerned that it wasn't received. Thoughts?

    CMS Video Interview

Hi all, Thought I'd share my experience with the CMS video interview for this year. Had some technical difficulties, but it went well aside from that. I know it's been said, but make sure you have a stable connection while doing it. Questions were pretty much as described above - one for...

    A-Levels/UCAS - Which Firms

Thanks for the input! Your experience is definitely encouraging and I am playing around with the idea of submitting an application or two in spite of these 'minimum' requirements this cycle, especially after hearing it from both you and Jessica. Out of curiosity, what do you think impressed...

So how many Vac Scheme apps is too many?

Hello all, Hope you've had an enjoyable (but also productive) summer! With the new academic year approaching, I've been compiling a 'shortlist' of firms to apply to. My goal is to secure a TC by the end of next year and I hope to achieve that through vacation schemes, rather than direct TC...

    A-Levels/UCAS - Which Firms

It may well be the case. Like I said, all of this is fairly anecdotal. Others have had better experiences. However, some grad recruiters have gone on record to state they automatically screen candidates out based on A-levels (Shearman & Sterling, for example). That, combined with my experience...

    A-Levels/UCAS - Which Firms

There is a flipside to this (in my experience, at least) and I do want to put it out there: I have ABB A-levels and applied for 7 insight schemes last year. My application was relatively weak (mostly because of a poor CV) but I believe the main reason for being rejected by 6 of them was because...

    Why this firm?

I've had some trouble with researching firms due to a number of reasons. When I look at firms of interest, the first thing I look for personally is their practice strengths relative to their competitors. This is because I have an (admittedly faint) idea for what type of practice I might be most...

    Pillars of the Application Process

Absolutely. In the first interview I bombed (at BCLP), the grad recruitment person giving feedback told me my motivations were unconvincing. I suppose it's important to not only have the right type of drive, but also be able to clearly express it to the interviewer. In my case, my interest for...

    Welcome! Introduce yourself here :)

Thanks to both you and Daniel for the warm welcome! I had no idea you were no longer at Weil. I am sorry to hear that. If I may ask, what will you be doing now?

    Pillars of the Application Process

Hello everyone! Rather than thinking of any one employer in particular, I've been reflecting on what it is graduate recruiters want to see on applications generally. I feel there are a few main points to satisfy. Obviously, there are various degrees to which it is necessary to satisfy them...

    Welcome! Introduce yourself here :)

Hello everyone! My name is Rick. I just got done with the first year of my LLB. Much more fun than I imagined! What hasn't been so fun is the mountain of rejections from insight schemes and open days ;( I feel the rejections were due to my mediocre foreign diploma (equivalent to ABB). I...
