Update:
SQE 1:
I took the SQE 1 in January 2024 and I'm pleased to say that I passed in the 1st quintile! I must say that it was one of the toughest exams and exam preparation periods I have ever experienced. I was absolutely convinced that I had failed. I don't think that the BPP preparation...
I am doing the CCP (which is the SQE1, SQE2, and masters) at BPP. I would not recommend ULaw or BPP, but I would choose ULaw over BPP. The materials we have been given were definitely not enough to support us going into the SQE.
QLTS has a really good programme and their practice test was most...
The Revise SQE books have all the information you need. Alternatively, go to the SRA website which has the exam specification on it and you can base your revision around that.
I don't have experience with Brigette Notes, but I would recommend Revise SQE very highly. I personally don't find Law Answered very helpful, but I know some people really love those notes.
They usually hand out 50 TCs overall and generally 80% of those are awarded to vac schemers. That means they will probably be handing out ~10 direct TCs.
This sounds horrible! If it's any consolation, it sounds like you dodged a bullet. When you secure a TC, you'll have to work there for the next two years. I can imagine working in an environment such as this would be detrimental to your mental health and would not make you enjoy a career in law...
I highly recommend using Chambers Rankings to help you with this (https://chambers.com/legal-guide/uk-1). They will list firms that are ranked in these areas from band 1 (the highest) to band 4 (still pretty amazing). After a quick search, I found:
UK Environmental law band 1 London-based...
Hi I was in Aspire last year and found it very helpful. The most helpful things were the open days (go to as many as you can attend) and the mentoring schemes. CAC was also helpful for my interviews. Good luck everyone!
I've not taken the exams yet, but there's no rule to say you have to do them in January. You could do the prep course and then revise for the next few months doing practice assessments until the next set of exams (July 2024). That is unless there is a certain reason that you are choosing to take...
Update
It's been a moment!
Mentoring
As well as the individual mentees I had taken on, I joined "The Mentors Collective" initiative or TMC for short. It's a really fantastic initiative which I very much recommend. There is a document which outlines the names of all the mentors, their...
Hi! After looking at a few reviews, I bought the Revise SQE books. They were considerably cheaper than ULaw's books and far more targeted with the knowledge you need to actively recall for the SQE. I've actually been surprised by how easy they are to understand as well. There was one topic I...
Hi! I secured a TC at NRF and will be doing the City Consortium Programme with the SQE 1&2 at BPP. Definitely nervous as I've heard they don't go through all the subjects, so have bought some revision guides to go through before the course starts to recap the core subjects.
I do know of one person who has gotten the VS at Mishcon and others who have received PFOs. Maybe the silence means you are borderline and still being considered?
You can ask them to give you an extension to decide, but they doesn't mean they will agree to it. You could also accept the offer and then renege on it later, although this becomes complicated if you have already accepted any financial help/been enrolled on an SQE course.
Did you specifically ask what you could improve on? This is what I used to do when I received an overly positive feedback call. It can be brutal, but ultimately led me to the information I needed to be succesful.
I read this report and feel like it doesn't really touch on the nuance of the situation. Even supposedly "clean" technologies employ climate damaging work. An example of this is the mining that is required to get the materials needed for EV batteries. In an ideal world, it would be great to have...
If you have a genuine situation in which you need to change the date of the interview, I don't think they will read too much into it. The worst that can happen is that they say no and you are in the same situation you are in now.
