Hi all! It’s been a while since I was on here - I’m now midway through the second seat of my TC! I recently volunteered to facilitate a case study for a grad rec event my firm was running and speaking to the students on the event / talking them through the case study really reminded me of how I...
Just for comparison, my exams at BPP weren’t open book. We had permitted materials that we were able to tab and highlight and bring to the exam, but we certainly couldn’t annotate or write anything in our materials and we could not bring in our own notes for exams (except for Wills and...
My teaching experience really differed from tutor to tutor. On a whole I thought the LPC was a lot more spoon fed than uni - you’re given solutions for almost everything you cover in tutorials - but also a lot more rote learning and memorisation than my uni experience.
For the Accelerated LPC...
I did the Accelerated LPC at BPP Holborn so cannot really comment on 1-3, but BPP Holborn is a tiny building and constantly stuffed to the rafters with students - if you're intending to just pop in and pop out for classes this might be fine for you but in terms of study space and library...
I totally agree with Jaysen. You should pick a news story that genuinely interests you, not least because you'll come off as more engaged but also because it'll be easier to handle follow-up questions. The risk of picking a story that is neither familiar nor interesting to you is that follow-up...
I would venture to say that Ashurst has a particularly strong practice in projects and infrastructure. I talked about it a lot in my (successful) application and interview last year.
I was a Rare candidate in the cycle I landed my TC. They were incredibly helpful. I would highly recommend it. Feel free to PM if you have further questions.
I was paid a couple weeks before I started the LPC, but it is different depending on the firm. Some firms pay their grants in two instalments (the second instalment halfway through the LPC) and I know people whose firms only paid their grant a couple weeks after starting the LPC. I would email...
Yep! I applied last cycle for a direct TC too (around this time in fact) and heard back with an interview invite 21 days on the dot, and with the outcome 21 days after that interview :)
Hi, I'm really sorry to hear about your rejection. I understand it must be incredibly frustrating to fall down at this hurdle, and I hope you manage to get some meaningful feedback from the firm. I just have a few thoughts on how to answer these kinds of questions moving forward:
On identifying...
@Jai C. I swear I thought you tagged me in this thread?
It is really tough to juggle multiple commitments. I’m still trying to keep it all together while doing the LPC, but a few things I find help with time management (apologies if this is a bit rambling as I’ve just typed this all out on my...
I would just fill it in as best you can - put your subject grades as they were graded in your country, and usually there’s an option where you can select ‘Other’ when it asks you to choose what type of secondary qualification it was (eg, A or O levels). There’s also usually a section where you...
I see, thank you for clarifying. Sounds similar to Linklaters’ position last year - they’ve since removed their description of non-rolling. I’ll leave this information on the rolling basis thread for completeness.
Interesting - does ‘reviewing applications’ include interviewing before the deadline as well?
I only ask because I was in a similar situation last cycle - there were several TSR members who reported interviewing before the deadline, despite Shearman’s advertised non-rolling position. I too had...
Hi all, have updated Shearman to reflect that they review applications (and interview candidates) before their application deadline (https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/forum/threads/shearman-sterling-winter-vacation-scheme.1777/#post-15165)
TCLA has profiles on the MC firms (minus Freshfields) here, which might be helpful: https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/insights/allen-overy-2/
Some things to think about when trying to differentiate firms:
Structure of the training contract
Particular strengths (whether geographical or by...
