Hi everyone, this will be my last post on TCLA as my cycle has officially ended and I will be going on to accept a TC offer. Thank you all so much for your support - this cycle has been full of ups and downs and I couldn't have made it through without having somewhere like TCLA on hand for...
This may just be anecdotal, but I only progressed with VS applications and not DTC applications this year. This is despite over a year of full-time legal experience. I do think VS apps are worth doing if possible. Keep pushing, you've got this!!!
Anecdotally I've heard from lawyers that they're not impressed by the quality of work coming out of international firms' Dubai offices. I would choose London easily based on that alone
After yesterday's TC offer, I got a TC rejection today from a similar type of firm where I thought I aced the VS. Just goes to show how subjective and unpredictable this process is, and how important it is to keep going because you never know who will value your potential!
Received a TC offer this afternoon and am on such a high!!!! Thank you so much to everyone on this forum and for the team at TCLA for all your support, you're all brilliant 😍😍😍
Thanks Amma! Honestly think this firm might not be the one for me anyway. Did some damage control today with coffee chats but I don't think I'll be too heartbroken if I don't get an offer. Just frustrating that it's not enough to do good work and get along with your supervisor!
Do you need to be a real social butterfly to convert a VS? I'm on my second vac scheme in a row and already exhausted and I can feel myself not putting myself out there as much as I did on the previous one. I'm starting to worry that my relative lack of networking is going to be a deakbreaker...
How would people suggest connecting with trainee buddies/supervisors pre-VS? Is it just connecting on LinkedIn and saying hi ahead of meeting at the VS or should I formulate some questions to ask already?
has anyone who got a summer VS offer from mishcon received an email after the phone call? they did say it would take about a fortnight but would be good to know
I would assume it's the standard call to offer/email to PFO, but given we don't know their timeline in terms of making offers I don't see any reason to assume a PFO at this stage
I just got a missed call from Mishcons grad rec saying they'd like to speak with me for 5 mins for 'feedback' after my AC for the summer VS. Did anyone else get a call today and if so what was the news? Would like to think they wouldn't bother calling to reject but 'feedback' sounds ominous...
These are such good stats.
I really do think that around 10-15 high quality apps with a lot of firm research/engagement can be the sweet spot for a lot of people, especially when you're working!
I'm also working full-time. I've done 11 apps (1 more to do) and I've found success with this...
At one of my ACs there were four of us and I was the first one out of the interview by a mile - I'd say by 15 mins or so - and I got a VS offer. Don't overthink it - especially if you talk fast like I do!!!
Sure! I've actually been working on this myself recently as it's a huge weak point of mine, and I really like how Vanessa Van Edwards deals with the topic. She's written a few books and has a website/YouTube channel - her interview on Diary of a CEO was fantastic and I'd highly recommend.
She...
Unfortunately there is always a possibility that discriminatory attitudes will influence hiring at any stage of the process.
For example, the name on your application will give away whether you are male or female and may also indicate your race. Even if your name is hidden when your...
