Thinking about what type of law firm is right for you

That's a good way to present it! Do you mean diverse in terms of people or practice areas? I think that's a good way to differentiate the magic circle/UK and US law firms. You could say magic circle are more full service in the UK so you could experience more practice areas as a trainee.

Thinking about what type of law firm is right for you

This is such a good thread idea! I've had those questions before and quickly learned I had to be more tactical with the firms I mentioned (pretending I hadn't applied to some firms that I had) I prefer small intake US firms because: You're not just one of many trainees, you are valued within...

How many vac scheme applications will you be sending off?

Aiming for 10 in total. No doubt will end up falling behind on my exams.

    'Tell us about you' questions

I would think it's weaknesses yeah. But you wanna consider things that you can spin as a good/don't make you seem really bad. Is this a real interview question? it's horrendous

    Aston Martin IPO

Got it! That's interesting - I was thinking if this was an interview question, an interviewer might argue something like that. In response, I would say that the bigger concern is pursuing an IPO while Brexit negotiations are taking place. Several car companies have warned that a no deal Brexit...

    Aston Martin IPO

Good brand but seems like they have a lot of debt and will be very vulnerable to Brexit. Quite a good comparison to AA's IPO here: https://www.ft.com/content/a9a73b9c-ae9d-11e8-8d14-6f049d06439c

Which law firms are open for applications? 2018-19

Which is why I hate tests. You could have the most amazing application, work experiences etc. but get rejected because of a test. I wish they tried tests on partners to see if it was an accurate test of ability.

    Commercial Awareness

One thing I came across recently. I've found the New York Times really good for opinions on commercial topics. So rather than just laying out the news, it's helpful for seeing two sides to an issue.

Why not Investment Banker or a Business Consultant?

This may be a stupid point but...the law? I just focus on my interest in the law (as this strikes me as the big differentiator).

What you should be doing now

Ooh love it! I've never really got into email subscriptions but I will check it out. This is a bit of an invasive question but can I ask: What time do you wake up? I am trying to get into a routine. It sounds like you are really up to date though, don't you think?

What you should be doing now

Awesome thread! Maybe a few people can also post what they are doing right now to prepare? People always suggest reading the FT but honestly, I just can't bring myself to read more than a couple of stories. It either makes no sense to me or the stories feel irrelevant. Would you suggest...

Commercial Awareness Update - August 2018

Interesting choice of destination! Italy was the original inspiration for Howard Schultz to create Starbucks but I would have thought Italians would find American coffee terrible. From the company website: "In 1983, Howard traveled to Italy and became captivated with Italian coffee bars and...
