Hi @Meg - Paul Weiss
I was wondering what mandates PW has secured over the last year in its antitrust team; and whether PW has managed to move beyond merger control into cartel/dominance, collective actions, DMCCA, FDI or anything sectoral?
I know Herdman and especially Kar were seen as 'big'...
Most job applications expect circa one page (like S&M), but for TCs/VSs you can get away with 2 pages. I would say keep it less than 1000 words (that's plenty; though NB I think W&C used to allow for 1500).
Structure:
- 'Dear X'
- Introductory sentence ('I am X; I am applying for Y')
- Why...
They hire c10 trainees. In terms of numbers this is not unique at all.
The only difference is that they've never had trainees before (cf those with more established training contracts). That can be good or bad depending on how you spin it.
Positives
- Higher ceiling (i.e. lack of a fixed...
I agree, PEP is probably a reliable way of measuring the prestige - or at least the profitability of a firm. But I think there is a better metric - billable rates.
The main problem with PEP is that it is just shows the overall profits available for distribution to equity partners. This means...
Possible.
Would need a sizeable shift in mentality from the senior partners in NY. Thing is their set up works really well for them rn in the US, especially for the top partners. Until their profitability drops, competition racks up and they lose mandates theres no need to risk the investment...
Weil is a good choice. If you have nothing but a general interest in commercial law Weil/Cleary have the broadest practices and most solid training programmes. Cleary heavier on competition, litigation and public M&A, Weil on finance, restructuring and PE. Weil arguably a bit more prestigious in...
If the marketing person isnt a recruiter you have nothing to worry about.
If it was gred rec, unless they're incredibly petty, that comment probably makes no difference.
pick the 9am one
Top tip (in my opinion) for picking interview timeslots is to find a time when your interviewer is most likely to be friendly, energetic and keen to have a conversation with you. Don't choose Mondays or Fridays. Morning slots, right after they've had their coffees, are better...
I did the S&M AC for direct TC in October.
One thing I'd say is, unless they've changed it, the written exercise was very challenging for me. You have to write a report on a company's business strategy. There's not a lot of time to think (you have an hour to read different materials, prepare...
Idk if this is just my perspective but I've never found open days particularly helpful. Last year, I did open days at multiple firms (W&C, Shearman, TW, Jones Day, Latham) and didn't get any offers from them (but I did get a VS offer from a firm I had not done an open day with). I did the...
Idk, I don't have anything more than anecdotal evidence (I know two people who turned down S&C). Imo, if a candidate has multiple offers I don't really see them taking S&C; it's not really a top city firm. I'd be curious to know why you think they're awesome (not that there's anything wrong with...
I don't think the direct TC route for Sully Crom is a long shot. With 12 vac schemers and 8 TCs to offer, I doubt they will fill many spaces from the vac scheme. Not everyone will be offered a TC and not everyone will accept one. Just browsing Linkedin you can see a number of people who did the...
NB most of the IP work you would do at Goodwin is life science focused and vice versa. The entirety of Goodwin's Cambridge IP practice is pharma and biotech focused, and nearly all of their corporate deals in life sciences have IP intertwined. So you should probably mention both.
