You can avoid it quite a bit - I found a lot of American firms don't seem to use it. Also, firms use their online testing differently - to choose candidates or to reduce the paper pile. So it's a complete game of chance!
I agree - not fair :(
Think this needs updating but here is a rough guide folks!

Its very similar to PwC's online testing - would recommend looking that up too.
Best thing you can do is not to get psyched out by it and avoid thinking of what they are looking for - their GR explained last year at their open day that they take it like they wanted 10 risk takers, 10 non...
I relate to this so hard that I made it a rule to not apply to firms that use online testing - especially if they had massive questions which they didn't even read my answers.
There is a really good list somewhere that highlights which firms do and don't - :)
This is a good question and something you can actually solve in 2 ways:
1. You leave it blank - which is honest!
2. You can go onto Vantage and do the online vac schemes - there are some CC and W&C on there I believe! Furthermore, I would try grab some law fairs with LegalCheek, Lawcareers.net...
This is actually a great way for you to sus out whether the firm is for you. Be honest - I said I was worried I would not be commercially aware enough but my interviewer actually reassured me and gave me advice. See what you can learn - and how to prepare in advance for your TC!
I honestly think some CAPP assessments./online GBA are vv questionable - I took the exact same practice test right after another last year and got completely different results. One minute I am prioritising teamwork and the next I am letting the whole firm down with my inability to collaborate...
This is a really interesting thing I have realised recently when speaking to trainees who, in their journey, have turned down multiple TC offers (usually from MC!). I've usually asked why and I think people consider the following: "While the firm has now decided I am a fit for them - do I...
None in my cohort but I spoke to trainees/associates/partners in the firm who were career changers. I would 10/10 recommend emailing the GR team as they will be able to advise you if there is a different process!
No problem leaning into the PE at all but don't forget to look at the other practices as you will likely train in them at some point - and if your partner interview is with someone who isn't PE you don't want to shoot yourself in the foot if that makes sense?
