Hi @LegalMaven , Before anything, I want to say how incredible it is to have achieved a First Class degree despite the challenges you were facing at home and with your health. Just reading about your experience to date, you have a strong foundation for a fantastic application. In terms of how you proceed, dealing first with the LPC versus SQE debate: “Students who wish to qualify as solicitors and started their ‘law journey’ on or after 1 January 2022 are required to qualify via the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) pathway. For these purposes the start of a ‘law journey’ is, in most cases, the start of an LLB or a law conversion course, such as the GDL, or Law Conversions Course (PGDL). Most students who started their law journey prior to 2022 will have the choice of qualifying as a solicitor via the LPC or SQE pathway“ So, as you studied an LLB before that date, you can still qualify as a solicitor under the LPC route. Of course, some (not all) firms are starting to prefer/require the SQE route. Ultimately, it will be a matter of personal preference and really you do have the choice. In terms of career related opportunities:

Open Days - these are not just open to university students and it will just be a case of going onto your chosen firms’ recruitment websites and applying yourself. Going to these alongside the SQE/LPC will be an excellent way to learn more how the firm and a great way of demonstrating and confirming your interest in them on applications.
Brushing up on Commercial Awareness - TCLA has some great resources on their premium membership to help learn more about the commercial world and resources to brush up on your commercial awareness. We also have a Commercial Awareness thread (free on this forum) where recent news stories are summarised and analysed from the perspective of law firms/their clients. Of course, alongside this reading the news on the daily is very beneficial.
Casual work - It is difficult to work part-time/full time alongside the full time LPC/SQE, however I do have a lot of friends who did work casually on the weekends or the evenings a few times a week. I know agencies such as Ryder Reid, Flex Legal etc sometimes advertise document review roles which are casual jobs which can add to your repertoire of legal experience.
Hopefully this helps and let me know if you have any other questions via this thread! Laura :)
