There is absolutely no need to do this - the vast majority of vac schemers wouldn't do it.
Some do though - if you do, really a card is sufficient, there doesn't need to be a gift with it. If you do go with a gift, give something that is small, low value (e.g. less than £20) and sharable in the office.
