Regarding two companies wanting to go into [redacted]</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">2. Regarding advice given by yourself to a client </li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">3. Whether there was a breach of contract</li> </ul></li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">You then have a case study interview with a partner and senior solicitor regarding the issues and your thoughts on these</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">You can have the case study in front of you to refer to (I had split screen with Zoom open)</li> </ul><p>CV/Competency Interview:</p><ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">This is the only part of the AC where the interviewers will have seen your application as the rest of the process is CV blind </li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Will ask about motivations, why Macfarlanes and specifically about parts of your application</li> </ul><p>Written Exercise:</p><ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">45 minutes to prepare</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">An issue regarding a complaint made </li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Need to write to the complainant and also the partner regarding your thoughts </li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">This was done on an assessment centre platform where you type in your answers and it saves and submits after the session is complete</li> </ul><p><strong></strong></p><p><strong>Please list any interview questions you were asked.</strong></p><ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Why Macfarlanes </li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Why law </li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Tell me about a time you dealt with time pressure </li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">A few questions specifically about my work experience which linked back to motivations for law </li> </ul><p></p><p><strong>What is your best advice for each aspect of the assessment on the day? Please break this down for each assessment. This can include advice for preparation, as well as tips for the day.</strong></p><p></p><p>Case Study:</p><ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Do not panic if you don't understand something, just focus on what you do know and try to have an opinion about it that you can discuss and back up </li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Use your time wisely, there will be 4 questions at the bottom of each case study relating to the text you have read, you will be asked each question so it will be obvious if you ran out of time and weren't able to come to a decision about the question </li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">My advice would be to keep it conversational as it makes you feel less nervous about the task and see the interviewer as a human</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">If you realise that your answer was wrong after it being pointed out to you, do admit this because the partner does not want to be bulldosed during this interview </li> </ul><p>CV/Competency Inteview:</p><ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Do speak passionately about why law, why Macfarlanes - learn your answers well but I advise to learn them in more bullet point form so that it doesn't seem overly rehearsed</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Make this as conversational as you can, this interview is a great way to build rapport with your interviewers as you can ask questions at the end</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">You might get a question that you didn't expect, make sure you look over your application and question everything on there so you are prepared and not caught out by something</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Ask good questions - don't ask obvious cliche things, use this as an opportunity to seem interested in them and gain an insight into their practice or decisions they have made perhaps - it shows that you are genuinely interested and understand the context of what they do </li> </ul><p>Written Exercise:</p><ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">The time goes QUICKLY - keep a close eye on it <br /> </li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Really be strict with yourself - if you allocated 20 minutes on one part of the exercise but it is not complete, move on to the next and you can come back to this if you have time</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">It is really important to finish the task - this is a major skill they are testing, you could probably take 1.5 hours to finish this task realistically but it is about spotting the key issues and focussing on them</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Set out your answers well, think about the audience etc</li> </ul><p></p><p><strong>Were you successful?</strong></p><p></p><p>Yes</p></blockquote><p></p>
