Is this question asking what can the firm do to improve/stay competitive? I am confused what they mean when they say 'items' - probably overthinking it

You're on the right track! Think along the lines of business strategy - how has the firm tried to set itself apart from its competition and what's worked for them? What adds to their recall value? How are their client relationships different and how can they be maintained/improved?
