Update: Variety of Work: Something that has really picked up this week is the variety of work that I am working on. Whilst I can't really go into much detail about what I am doing, I can say that the work I am doing covers:

Solar projects;
Geothermal projects;
CO2 stores and CCUS projects;
Hydrogen projects; and
Offshore wind project.
Some of the projects are in their infancy, others are in the middle of operations, and others are winding up which means I have a variety in the legal work I am doing as well. That said, I have become very well-acquainted with NDAs which seem to be a big part of in-house law. Although I look at a huge range of agreements, NDAs are by far the most common. In a way it can be a bit frustrating, but on the other hand, I feel like it has really developed my ability to analyse legal agreements and the comments that the counterparty has made. Settling In I really feel like I have finally started to find my new routine here. I think part of the challenge with a client secondment is that you have to relearn the culture of the place you are working in. bp has a very different culture and set of priorities to NRF and it has taken some time to learn the new rhythms and expectations. I have found that along with settling into the culture at bp, I have also made some friends across the lawyers and business staff at bp which I imagine will be very valuable. One of the hardest things I have found, however, is that you are not really ever going to be part of the team as you are a contractor, not an employee. Although there are plenty of contractors here, I think I have been a little bit surprised by the big difference between contractors and employees. I think it means you will always be a little bit of an outsider, no matter how friendly people are. On the other hand, I have made good friends with some of the other contractors as well, and I definitely feel a sense of comfort when we stick together. That said, my favourite part of my week is still my Wednesday morning walk with the Customer and Products team. My team don't come into the office on a Wednesday, but I prefer to come into the office, so I also have lunch with Customer and Products and I just enjoy myself so much! it is by far the highlight of my week and something I wish I could continue to do after leaving for my next seat. Proximity to Decision Makers In a company as large as bp, going on secondment does not guarantee that you will have contact with the GC and the big decision-makers, so I was really pleased when the Legal Leadership Team came to the office I work in to meet us all. I learnt a lot about Mike Sosso and the rest of his team and it was a great opportunity to make an impression on the senior decision-makers. The refreshed legal panel for bp was also internally announced recently, so I think being inside the business at the moment is a great opportunity to see how this is practically utilised within the business. Seat Rotation I can't believe it, but it's almost time to make choices for the next seat rotation again. Our choices have not come out yet, but I expect they will be available later this week. I am definitely going to try to get the Project Finance secondment in Singapore if it is available. Other than that, I haven't thought too hard about my next seat yet as it feels like I have only just started this one! Edited to add: Seat choices are now out! We have 14 international opportunities and 8 client opportunities which is so exciting. This is one of the key reasons I chose NRF. This time around our international options are:

Sydney
Melbourne
Paris x2 (different sector areas)
Frankfurt
Singapore x3 (different practice areas)
Dubai x3 (different practice areas)
Tokyo
Milan
Brussels
I think my choice order will be:

Singapore Project Finance
Singapore Asset Finance
Innovation, Design and Technology (this is a London business seat)
Transport Disputes or General Disputes
Thank you for following my journey!
