Hi everyone!

We have put together a list of law firms that are currently accepting applications for open days and insight schemes (including those aimed at first-year students). These events are a great way to learn more about individual firms and ask questions, and are particularly valuable if you are planning to apply via the direct training contract route.

To make it easier to manage the opportunities below, you can save firms, research them and keep track of upcoming deadlines in the free TCLA Workspace.

Hi!

Not a silly question at all! I can't imagine there is necessarily a specific reason for this - it could simply be that firms have to arrange all of their events around the same recruitment cycle, so the dates don't always line up perfectly with their application deadlines.

If the deadline is non-rolling, I would say it is less of a concern as everyone applying before the deadline should, in theory, be considered on the same basis regardless of when they submit. In that situation, I would definitely consider attending the open day if you can, even if it falls close to the deadline.

If it is rolling, though, I wouldn't delay submitting an already strong application just to attend the open day. The quality of your application is much more important, and you could always use anything you learn from the open day in future stages or applications :)

Hi @Abbie Whitlock, I have a question, please. So this is my first time applying to an open day. Regarding this question: "Why do you want to attend an open day at Latham & Watkins specifically?"

I'm second-guessing how to approach it. I'm thinking of talking about two things: a deal I find interesting that Latham advised on, and a partner at the firm I sort of admire because of her professional journey and the deals she's worked on. I understand there is no standard or "golden" answer, but I want to know whether this is a good fit for an open-day question or if this is not what is expected for such a question. Thank you in advance
