Just got rejected from Paul Weiss's Open Day on 22 September. I had ticked yes to all three open day options – am assuming that this is a 'no' for all three, in that case? Is it worth applying for the VS? Feeling very demoralised, as I had spent ages on it :(

Hi, I was also rejected from Paul, Weiss' Open Day on 22nd September and expressed an interest in attending any one of the three available days. In my rejection email I was told: 'Please note that this decision pertains solely to the Open Day on 22 September and does not affect any other applications you may have submitted to Paul, Weiss.'

May i ask who do you expressed you interest to? Did you just email the Recruiter?

Ah I was also told this! Do you think that this means that we're still under consideration for the other two? I think I just assumed that one Open Day rejection would mean that the others were a 'no' too. (I've had such terrible luck with Open Days before, so maybe I'm being overly pessimistic – and fingers crossed that this means we are still in the running for one of the other days then 💛)

I assumed that it meant that the other two open days were still a possibility given that we've yet to hear back on those but I'm not sure for certain. Fingers crossed we are still in the running!

Hi! I was rejected from open days and went on to secure vacation schemes with those firms because firms recognise that a candidate can demonstrate genuine interest and suitability through a strong application, even without having attended the open day. In fact, most people who get AC will not have attended the open day due to various reasons.

A rejection from an open day often reflects the limited spaces rather than a judgment on your overall potential. When applying for the vacation scheme, your application will be assessed on your CV, experiences, commercial awareness, motivation for the firm, and how well you align with the qualities they are looking for in trainees.

has anyone else received the feedback report for Latham's test for their open day? I got analytical/complex thinking and effective communication as my strengths and my weaknesses were professional development and self-motivation. Feel like that's not a good sign tbh. 😭
I got self-motivation and judgement as strengths, and analytical thinking as a weakness. I actually think that professional development is a headline and not a criterion since it says “the strength below” after that headline? Didn’t mention anything about communication haha. Very confusing! But I hope that they put more weight on the online app rather than the test:) have you heard anything back?

Rejected from Latham’s open day is it worth even applying to the Vac Scheme at this point?…
Hello!

I'm really sorry to hear that you received a rejection for the open day, but I would definitely not let that put you off applying for the vacation scheme! Open days and vacation schemes are assessed very differently, and there is usually different criteria for both - the competition is fierce, and not getting through for one doesn't mean you're not what the firm's looking for.

Plenty of people will get rejected from open days but go on to secure vacation schemes or even training contracts at the same firm. I would use this as a chance to reflect on your answers and motivations to ensure that you are fully answering the questions, and tighten any examples that you use to make them tailored to the firm.

I would 100% still apply! The vacation scheme is a fresh opportunity, and it is always worth giving it a go and applying!

Best of luck with your application (if you choose to apply!) :)
