Private client - anyone?

Hi guys, I'm an oxbridge grad (2:1) currently doing the GDL in London.

I'm interested mainly in private client law (though obviously I'll hopefully end up with a TC in a full service firm), and was wondering whether anyone else in here is? I am aware this is a corporate/commercial focussed forum, but I presume a few of us are looking to specialise in private client?

Any advice with applications would be appreciated... this is my second cycle, and I have a decent amount of legal work experience (VS and informal, plus sitting in the public gallery in court). I'm just scared of another year of nothing, or screwing up tests, interviews, and assessment days. We're all in the same boat I suppose, but it's no fun.

Private client here too! I can't say that I have been particularly successful thus far so Im probably not the best person to advise. I do find it tough sometimes because all the firms that pay well and are full-service really want to see your commercial awareness. This was my issue the last few cycles as my commercial awareness wasnt very good and I also didn't have a passion for more commercial stuff. I just realised overtime that there are areas of commercial law that are less corporate (if that makes sense) and I focus on them for the commercial questions i.e. Real Estate.

I just realised how silly that sounds as Real Estate is pretty corporate. I meant more in the sense that I am drawn to areas where it can be very personal and tangible, so talking about M&A isnt really my strong suit but I didn't realise that I could show my commercial awareness without talking about M&A or PE for example.

No I completely get you- commercial awareness might be what gets me too to be honest, and I'm not even 100% sure how to approach it during application questions.
