The firms I am looking to apply are those with a strong practice in private equity (so Weil for example).

I understand that you were a trainee at Weil, I was wondering perhaps if I can perhaps get an insight into your answer Why Weil? (

In relation to how did you use Weil's strength in the private equity practice to answer Why Weil?
How did you use your interest in PE/Emerging markets into answering Why Weil?

I understand that Why WEIL is a combination of your interest + specific reasoning, I was wondering to get your specific insights that made you interested in PE and Weil.

I don't have my application to hand but I can recall my reasons:
    • I first became interested in Weil following a talk by an IP partner from the firm. He was honest and open about Weil, which was very refreshing having gone through countless law firm presentations. (My interview answer was a bit more formal than this.)
    • I found PE interesting. Why? Fast-paced deals/sophisticated clients/exposure to a variety of businesses. I then explained how Weil is at the top of the market for PE.
    • I liked the small trainee intake -- it means you're visible and (potentially) more involved on deals.
