Bit overdue for an update, I've had a really busy period with classes, applications, and mock assessments! I think I'm really getting into the full swing of the application season now, as most Open Day opportunities are pretty much gone, but I think I've benefited greatly from the practice writing applications through those despite some of the unsuccessful ones! I've literally just got home from the AS CAC Semi-Finals at Mayer Brown (I'm so tired, dear god), where I got to meet a couple of the other forum members (I did only tell one of them that I recognised them from their story though!). It was good fun, really challenging with tight timings on the tasks but a good experience and I learned so much from the other competitors. I think something I really wanna share from the organisers (specifically Simran, she's previously published application tips etc on YT several years ago), which increasingly resonated with me throughout the day, is that everyone brings something unique with them. The different perspectives, solutions, ideas, brought in by literally everyone today was exactly that, different. That made it refreshing and really shone a light on everyone's individuality. On that basis, I just want to encourage everyone again through this really difficult and competitive process, that we all bring something unique and while this is a really difficult goal to work towards, every bit of effort is worth it, and we definitely all have our place as a solicitor in a law firm somewhere! Reflection is a really good thing, and it also helps to avoid cynicism when doing so. On paper, I think a lot of us felt we didn't do very well, but with hindsight, given the very limited time we had to prepare presentations on reasonably lengthy articles we had never seen before, I think we all genuinely did a good job of plucking out the different risks, opportunities, potential solutions, and then presenting them. At the end of the day as well, what mattered wasn't whether we provided correct, perfect, or agreeable solutions etc. What mattered was that we could argue our points and back them up logically. On the other side of things, I got my Travers Smith application in, got invited to HL's Job Sim, and I'm refining some points for my MC applications. I've heard that CC has quietly halved their trainee intake whilst still stating that they take up to 100, so I guess they'd have to be really exceptional, and I'm contemplating letting them go due to time constraints and just the overall competitiveness (which hurts because I've long thought that CC felt like a brilliant fit and I confirmed this during a paralegal AC this year which I sadly fell short on). I still remember when CC's deadline was around the 2nd or 3rd week of December instead of November 😅 I've got one more Open Day application to submit for Gibson Dunn, and I've resubmitted tweaked applications for Davis Polk and Paul, Weiss Open Days. But from here on out, it's VS and TC applications + consolidating my studies on the GDL ahead of exams (I could have a Criminal assessment just before Christmas:eek:). I'm feeling more focussed than ever with greater conviction, direction, and self-belief for once, and I'm feeling really motivated to come out of this cycle with a TC offer. Failing that, I'm determined to learn from it and go through the next cycle again and aim to succeed then. As a parting note, I just want to thank anyone who's been keeping up with my journey and increasingly sporadic posts here. I would also like to emphasise some encouragement once again for everyone who sees this. Keep hanging in there and forging ahead, the UK economy and job market are going through really difficult and uncertain times. Every small step forward we take in this process is an achievement in itself. Every unsuccessful application, online assessment, video interview, written exercise, and assessment centre is another building block in building the best you. Each and every one of you brings something unique to the table, and it would be a shame for the legal sector to miss out on your unique perspective. At the end of it all, it only takes one offer, just one.
