To maximise your chances, you realistically will need to apply for both VSc and TCs. Doing the pgdl will not necessarily increase your chances of succeeding as the kind of things that you study are not really helpful in interviews/applications. Getting a distinction in Pgdl to excel in the future potential cycles is also likely to be a challenge on its own.
