CMS also state this so may be worth sharing as I assume this means that direct TCs are not common. :The main route to apply for a training contract at CMS is through successfully completing the CMS Academy. (Vac scheme) Deadline is 4/01/2019

And Davis Polk say this
2019 vacation scheme applications will be accepted from penultimate-year law students, final-year non-law students and postgraduates wishing to commence a training contract in 2021.
Applications open on December 1, 2018, and close on January 13, 2019. We will conduct interviews in the second half of January 2019 and expect to offer a total of 20 places for our two vacation schemes each of two-week duration.
2021 trainee solicitors will be recruited from the 2019 vacation scheme participants. We currently expect to offer around four places for our 2021 intake. I assume this means no direct TC applications?
