VS offer post direct TC app

I applied for a firm's direct TC stream, but, post AC, I have been offered a VS for next year. I am very perplexed as this was quite unexpected (I was anticipating a straight rejection). Normally, I would accept without a second thought, but I live overseas (UK citizen) and it costs a LOT of money to fly to the UK. There is also the additional aspect of whether or not I can get time off work, the fact I will have major jetlag during the scheme so won't perform well, etc. I am very grateful to be in a position to receive this offer, just very shocked.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation of being offered a VS instead of a TC? Or any general advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi @t-0147

This is definitely an unusual outcome, but I actually think it speaks really well of you as a candidate! The firm has clearly seen potential and are keen to get to know you better. So although it's quite rare, it does happen.

One option is to accept the offer for now and revisit the decision closer to the time once you’ve had a chance to assess your situation. You’re not necessarily locked in, and your circumstances may change. I think it's also worth reaching out to the firm to explain your position, particularly around the cost and time commitment involved. Some firms have budget set aside for exceptional circumstances and may be willing to help with travel or accommodation. It’s not guaranteed, but there’s no harm in asking, especially if you frame it professionally and with genuine enthusiasm for the opportunity.

Regardless of what you decide, I’d take this offer as a strong sign that you’ve made a real impression!

    Good luck :)

Thank you for taking the time to reply! I will see what comes out of a call with GR and discuss some of the options you have suggested.
