Would you be able to tell us more details about how this would work?

It varies from firm to firm. Scoring system will just be there for consistency - what weighting of what they are scoring will be different from firm to firm but will be based on all the usual important bits of an application form you would expect.

I'd assume - based on how SJTs and psychometric tests etc work from year to year - that it's a Z-score using that year's applicants

This is unlikely - it is much more likely to be a percentile.
