Hi everyone, I’m getting lots and lots of dms re the Sidley process and thought it might be easier for everyone if I just shed some light here.

Their process is an application form, phone interview with HR (they don’t make this publicly known for some reason) and then a final in person partner interview. Both interviews are largely only competency and don’t deviate from any normal interview for a city firm.

In relation to if invites/offers are released in batches … I obviously have no idea. People on here were getting invited to phone interviews a week after deadlines closed, and I got invited after 3 weeks. People got offers for the vac at the end of September, and I got mine at the end of October. From my perspective, Sidley are a firm that lives up to their ‘rolling’ nature - so idk if it’s better or worse that you applied a month before or on the day of … I applied day of and obviously suffered no detriment for this.

Yes their conversion rates are low (ish) (about 35% for my vac) but I fear this is now the reality of vac schemes at us firms … and yes for those asking there are several assessments on the vac and i obviously have no idea on which portion of the vac (or indeed the interview for the vac) matters more than others. My feedback call focused primarily on the work I did as a reason for the tc offer, and it offered little insight into what actually mattered to the firm - so I sadly won’t be able to offer insight to this.

I hope this helps people and sheds some insights into the process and my dms certainly do remain open to anyone with specific questions!

    Weil PFO 🌚

I don't know about others but in this application cycle every VI I think I did well in I flopped, and the ones I thought I royally messed up I got ACs for. Same with my self-proclaimed 'good' applications getting rejected vs ones I didn't think were that good getting next stages. What is that about !
I honestly have the same happen to me every time

Sorry to hear this! Luck for certain. I reckon you were in the maybe pile so you were good enough just not a lot of spaces that's an achievement. I've still not heard back

How bad is an amberjack score of 20 (for Reed Smith). It’s a shame, because my VI went well. And I genuinely did think my SJT performance was decent.
I got 20 too which I’m sad about!

Good news is they do watch every VI. Some firms don’t watch the VI if your score is too low.

Bad news is I’ve not seen someone with a score like this get an AC. But it might be possible. 🤷‍♂️

DLA Leeds AC!🧿 Any advice would be super appreciated!!! (And a serious post from me for once 😲)

For @Afraz Akhtar + others, it consists of a group exercise (3 others), strengths and motivation based interview, and an individual presentation (10 mins presenting and then seeing questions from the other person, ‘no preparation is required in advance, all information required to complete the presentation will be provided on the day’)

I have made it to ACs before with a score of 20 and its actually frustrating because I have improved my scores massively now and getting PFOs so dont stress too much about it
