TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2025-26

That is mad😭 least they can do for open day applicants is read their app… like they’re interested in your firm and therefore they especially came to meet you…

Don’t tell me they don’t even reimburse the travel expenses??
It was an open evening thing so less formal than an open day, but as the firm was my top choice, it was kind of a no-brainer to bite the bullet and pay for a train to help my chances as best as possible (also my bf lives in London so I had other reasons to make the money worth it I guess). I met people there who had come down from Durham, Leeds etc so I can't complain as my uni is Southern at least...

Any Willkie updates? I know they said by Friday but wondered if anything has gone out with interviews starting next week.
In the Willkie thread they did say that we'd most likely hear back late this week. Also, they mentioned that they will most likely send out interview invites before rejections, just in case some people turn down the interview, leaving a few extra spaces. So maybe Wedensday/Thursday for interviews?
Interestingly, it looks as though around 50% of those that took the WE will be invited to interview, possibly slightly more, possibly slightly less, based on how they make their decisions. Best of luck to everyone!

I couldn't find the thread. Thank you for the information.

How many are invited to WE?

That information hasn't been shared, although...
After doing some digging, Gemma previously stated that the firm receives around 1.3k applications, and she would select around 300 for video interviews. In a previous cycle, Gemma stated that on average, 23-26% of video interviews were progressed to written exercise. That would mean about 70-80 people (give or take) are invited to the written exercise every year. Assuming that to be true, it would make sense that they interview about 50% of those, so around 35-40 people, to ultimately give out 20 vacation scheme offers.

Please take this with a huge pinch of salt as I am an aspiring lawyer, not Sherlock Holmes. It is very possible that I am completely wrong!

Hey @Abbie Whitlock and everyone else that can help!!

I have an assessment centre soon and my first one, I am quite worried about the group interview and the written task + presentation. This is what I know so far:

Written Task and Presentation
- Written task is first then followed up with a separate follow-up virtual conversation, this will be the presentation task. Both will be based on the same scenario/brief. 50 minutes long in total. 5 minutes to review your instructions and 45 minutes to read the information provided and complete written response. 10 minute break in between written task and presentation. The presentation will be an opportunity to discuss the approach you had taken earlier in more detail. 40 minutes total for presentation so 5 minutes to review instructions given by assessor and 10 minutes to prepare for the presentation and then 25 minutes to present and discuss.

Group Exercise
Group of 3 or 4 candidates. In the morning before you are introduced to the exercise you will be told who your team is and if you are doing defendant summary A, B or C. Assessor will introduce the exercise and themselves then begin preparation time. You will evaluate defendant summary and give feedback to the group. As a group you will discuss how you will reach a conclusion to brief. 5 minutes to review instructions given. 10 minutes to read information provided. 15-20 minutes to do a group discussion. 20 minutes to present back to assessors and q&a.

I have no idea how or what to prepare so please anyone help! Thank you so much
