Hi Guys,

I am going into 3rd year in Sep and I am wondering whether there is much point in applying to any VSs given the low-ish grades. Do I have any hope? I am applying to non-us non-magic circle but still decent firms.

Thanks!

Hey!

Based on what you have shared, I don't think your grades will be a major issue at the majority of firms, particularly if you are applying to non-US and non-MC firms. Many firms take a holistic approach to applications and look at much more than academics alone, and will often just be looking to see that you have achieved a 2:1 overall.

What tends to matter most is whether you can write a strong and tailored application, demonstrate genuine motivation for commercial law and this particular firm, and show transferable skills through your work experience, extracurricular activities, and other experiences.

I would definitely encourage you to apply if you are interested in the firms! It is often difficult to predict how competitive you'll be from grades along, and you may be stronger than you think once the rest of your application is taken into account. If in doubt, it might be useful to email the graduate recruitment team to double-check what their grade requirements are - I'm sure they'd be happy to confirm this for you.

Best of luck with your applications! :)
