No thank you is necessary + the given time can be limited so you don't want to waste any time saying thank you

No need to do introductions or sign offs such as thank yous. I would just answer the question given the strict time limit. It isn’t like a normal interview where you go through the pleasantries.

Hi, I got an invite for the VI last year on 29th December so probably a similar time scale this year
