Why didn't you get a vacation scheme in your second year of study?

If that is any comfort, on my vacation scheme with Hogan Lovells, most students, myself included, were not even reading for their undergraduate anymore. This was not an issue as we all had reasons for this! As long as you expect the question to be asked and are ready to justify your choices...

    Hogan Lovells app to Birmingham

I should add that, while you may have already considered this, it could be wise to use the STAR technique (situation, task, action, results) with a strong emphasis on the action and results as the first question is really asking you 3 questions in one (why did you have to drop everything in that...

    Hearing Back from Firms + AC & Interview Tips Share - 2018 - 2019

Has anyone gone through the Mishcon video interview? A friend is going through her first VI and any insight into what the VI looks like would be greatly appreciated! :)

Firms that don't recruit mainly from vac schemes/applying directly to TC

It is pretty much half and half for Hogan Lovells (source: their website). I’d definitely recommend giving it a try, you won’t be at a disadvantage if you do not do the vacation scheme there

It is always worth asking the firm, they may sometimes be disposed to give you the result (unless they explicitly said they won’t on their website or somewhere else)

If that gives you any indication of Linklaters’ standard, I failed their Watson Glaser test. I also took another firm’s WG on the next day and it was the exact same test, and I passed with a 36/40 (88th percentile). I am fairly certain my answers were consistent across both tests; so I would...

Thanks for the kind words Jaysen! I'd be delighted and happy to have my story shared if it helps anyone else not get shot down by rejection!

    Hearing Back from Firms + AC & Interview Tips Share - 2018 - 2019

Hi everyone! I have been talking to a few people on private messages lately and I know some of you have felt let down by disappointing outcomes in this whole application process. I quite like comparing this to The Apprentice: a truly nerve-wracking process, involving intense competition and...

    Hearing Back from Firms + AC & Interview Tips Share - 2018 - 2019

The first three questions are purely competency based and, while I did not link them back to Hogan Lovells, I made sure to use the STAR technique — I hate STAR but I must admit it works and you cannot do without it. However, the last question which asks you what makes you stand out from the...

Good luck with that and feel free to message me if you have questions: I do not have Jaysen's wisdom or others' knowledge of the process but if you want my two cents, I'll be glad to share them.

    Hearing Back from Firms + AC & Interview Tips Share - 2018 - 2019

After spending a lot of time applying and being rejected from Linklaters, Allen & Overy, BCLP, Jones Day and Cleary Gottlieb; I caught a lucky break. I applied to Hogan Lovells, got invited to take the Watson Glaser test on the next day, got invited to an AC shortly after and in a matter of 12...

    Rolling Basis Recruitment Realities

I read the same thing about Jones Day already filling up all available places on the vac scheme earlier this week and asked the question to Graduate Recruitment at a Jones Day Question Time event: this is simply not true and although time is of the essence (I am aiming to send my application no...
