How do you go about discerning a law firm's strategy?

I have been asked a question relating to the firm's strategy, and thought it might be helpful if I establish what the firm's competitors are doing. But it's probably not something that's spelt out. Any tips on how to go about my research? Particularly for firms that don't have loads of news items.
