Blind Recruitment

hi all! I hope you're well :) I have applied to a firm which operates on a semi-blind recruitment process i.e. "We are operating a semi-blind recruitment process, so please do not include your address, school name, university name or grades throughout your application, other than in the dedicated contact detail and academic sections".

One of the sections asked: In what ways have your academic studies, qualifications, and work experience equipped you for a legal career?

In this, I accidentally named my university without realising - will this cause any blockers?

I'd appreciate any guidance, thank you so much - a worried applicant :')

Hello!

I completely understand why you are worried, and I actually think I've made a similar mistake in the past - I would say that this is unlikely to cause any major issues!

In a semi-blind process, the aim is to reduce bias at the screening stage, but a small and inadvertent reference like naming your university in one answer will usually not be treated as a major breach (especially since it is provided in the designated academic section anyway). The graduate recruitment team are generally more focused on substance rather than a minor technical slip-up, and it would only really be a concern if your application repeatedly revealed identifying details or clearly disregarded instructions (which doesn't sound like the case here at all!).

If you are still concerned, it might be worth emailing the graduate recruitment team just to flag it for peace of mind - however, I'm sure either way it'll be completely fine.

I would try not to stress too much about it (easier said than done, I know!), as your answers and the overall strength of your application will matter far more.

Best of luck with the application! :)

Hey - I'd drop a quick note to grad rec. If needs be, they can have a team member redact the uni name before passing it on to a colleague, still preserving the anonymity. Good luck!
