Thanks @Jessica Booker, you have put my mind at ease!
A few final questions, I hope you don't mind...
- Would it be wrong if I listed three examples separately (using the STAR approach for each?);
- Under "Action", should I explain the process I followed to make sure I produced high quality...
@Jessica Booker
I was wondering if you could give me some guidance as to how I should approach "please provides examples that demonstrate you are a talented person who produces consistent high quality work"//what you would expect a candidate to include in their answer?
I have refrained from...
Hi guys
I am struggling with a similar question: "give an example of a time you demonstrated the following attributes: we are commercial, efficient and effective". With regards to being commercial... I feel this is quite broad? I was wondering how others interpret "commercial" in this context...
Hi all :) reviving this thread!
Apologies in advance for this lengthy post but... I would be grateful for some input!!!
I am trying to answer the following on a TC application: “Our core values are integral to everything we do. Please provide us with examples of when you have demonstrated...
Thanks Jess. One of my points focuses on the firm's reputation in Commercial Property (the firm emphasise its plans for growth in this area and has strong expertise in Real Estate across the North West). I've discussed why it appeals to me e.g its reputation draws in high-profile development...
Fab, thank you Jaysen! I was mainly concerned that I was trying to fit in too many points in my reasons, so that's good to hear! So if one of my points focuses on the firm's training programme and I bring in the firm's memberships... it will be okay as long as I link that to my personal...
Jumping on this thread :)
I am struggling with culture too... A firm I am applying for talks about its "genuine unique" culture but I feel most firms say similar things. It is difficult to truly understand the culture without physically talking to people from firms.
If I really wanted to talk...
Hi Jaysen
Noted.
I mentioned the DR practice, then specified its work on contentious insolvency and IP disputes within this context, as I have a genuine interest in these types of work (e.g. IP elective on the LPC and interest in business finance/structure etc etc for insolvency).
I think...
Noted. I make sure I talk about three aspects of the firm that interests me in my application :).
So if I say I’m interested in the DR seat because of the work firm’s done in areas such as IP and Insolvency... then went on to say why that’s important to me e.g opportunity to get involved in a...
I really appreciate this! It’s so helpful to know how people approach this question. Also, I really like the detail you’ve given in your answers :) !!!!!!
So did you start by speaking about your experience, then linked it to the firm, then said how you would benefit them? I think one of the...
Thank you, that’s super help :)
Quick question if you don’t mind... how would you approach talking about the areas the firm specialises in? E.g. would you pick out one area say Commercial Property (the firm has four specialist areas) then speak about that without mentioning their other areas?
Hi Jessica
Agree re advice above!
I’ll be doing 6 months in each seat. The thing I am struggling with is how to talk about a firm’s practice area without sounding to general. I picked out the firm’s work on Insolvency and IP disputes as that’s what made it’s practice stand out - but I agree...
Just reviving this thread a year on! For the “why us?” question, I did the following:
1) I said that I am applying because I am interested in the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice area (1 of the 3 reasons).
2) I then explained why: the practice area stood out because of the firm’s expertise...
Fantastic, thank you Jessica, I am keeping my fingers crossed :) I made sure my cover letter was straight to the point/always gave examples to prove my statements etc so... might be good enough/might not be!
I have another question (if you don’t mind). Most firms I am applying to ask for a...
Thank you Jessica. I have sent a couple of covering emails previously rather than a cover letter as an attachment. However, as firms usually specify “please send a cover letter with your CV”, I thought I’m perhaps doing it wrong (mixed reviews). Have you ever accepted a covering email with a...
It’s
I’m glad I’m not the only one, a lot of people come across very calm and collected when it comes to these things! With some websites they specify who to address it to and their position but other websites (for smaller regional firms) just say email your cover letter and CV... those are...
Thank you :) that was my initial thought but I have seen mixed reviews about attaching the letter to an email! Noted re emailing graduate recruitment to clarify! I overthink these things and wonder if me emailing to clarify makes me seem like I’m unable to use my common sense but hopefully that...
