Hi Ailin!! So about 30mins after I got the above email, i received another saying id passed the test. I did the test on Sunday, received first confirmation 9.30am Monday, second one at 10am.
Best of luck.
Just got an email after completing the test saying 'Your application is currently under review and we will be in touch after the deadline to advise on the outcome of your application'.
Does that mean I met there benchmark?
Does anyone actually know what date the BaSE begins? I applied ages ago and am not expecting to get it, but i remember it just said 'late November' when I applied.
Hi Jessica,
Generally, does a reader of an application read the work experience/academic history of the candidate before reading the answers to the longer questions?
Thanks
Hi Jessica,
Is it common for firms to ask the same questions during VI as they did in the application. If so, is using a similar answer to what you wrote on the form advisable? Also, I have heard 'why law' is common in VIs, do you have any advice on reducing the answer to this to under one...
Makes sense. I thought these test were to filter out candidates before reading and did wonder how that was compatible with contextual recruitment. Good to know, thanks.
Hi Jessica!
I just did a Watson Glaser Test and as soon as I pressed start a digger starting going off in the street below me (facepalm). It was pretty distracting. I got my result back and it was 59, whilst I don't think I am that good at them i have been getting better than this in the past...
I was also in the 59th percentile in the WG, digger started going off outside my window as soon as I pressed start! (still not that good at them though) Do you know if you can still proceed with a mark like that if they like your application?
Hi Jessica,
I am applying to a firm that has a work experience section and an academics section, but then still asks to attach a CV. Do you have any advice regarding repetition?
The longer answer questions don't relate to extra-curricular, would it be a good idea for ECs to feature more...
Hi Jessica,
At what point in the recruitment process do law firms usually contact references? Also, is it ever the case that law firms ask for a reference from a specific past employer (perhaps if it is a work experience they are particularly interested in)?
Thanks :)
Hey! I wrote about all of the virtual stuff I had done, and even very briefly about the relevant books I had read. I also wrote about how I worked in a supermarket throughout the lockdown, and how I was travelling but had to come home. Hope that helps :)
Since the final question of this application is about your reasons for applying to Ashurst specifically, would it be best to not cover this much in the 1000 word cover letter? :) Ie. only cover 'yourself, your skills, achievements and why you want to train as a solicitor' in the letter?
Hi Jessica :)
For the question: 'Describe a challenging situation you have faced, what made it challenging, how did you respond and what did you learn in the process?'
Can I choose a challenge I have set myself, or would it be better to choose a challenge that presented itself (that I was...
Hi!! Only just saw these replies. Also no response yet, hopefully will get something today. Let me know if you guys hear anything :) Is it usual for firms to only email a candidate if they have been successful, and not if they have been unsuccessful? (again, a bit of a newbie to all this!)
