The other form of prep you might want to consider is preparing for the lateral thinking tests. Use the forum to find out which sort of test each firm uses (most use Watson Glaser, some don't), then complete as many practice tests as possible.
There are a few free ones on the web - complete them...
Yes, you should be fine. The only fairly solid rule is that if you do a vac scheme at a firm but are unable to convert it to a TC, then you can't reapply. Other than that, not really a problem.
I'm not going to lie to you - it's always better if you already have a vac scheme, and certainly, some firms unofficially are less keen on taking someone without a VS (understandably enough). That said, having had one (albeit a canceled one) is better than the people applying for a TC without...
The other issue that occurs to me is the direction in which Jaysen intends to take TCLA - if he wants future collaboration with firms, like the previous Sherman & Sterling grad rec Q&A.
I wonder if that would be rather harder to achieve if firms disliked TCLA due to its posting case...
As a general rule, you won't get an automatic rejection for module results. Firms with minimum A level requirements/minimum degree class requirements will do so, but not for modules automatically as far as I know. Automatic grade rejection is only for A levels/degree certifications as a rule...
I think there's some middle ground to be had when it comes to interview experiences. If we didn't allow any specific experiences at all, that would put some people at a huge disadvantage - yes, of course you should be generally prepared for any interview, but nevertheless, if someone else has...
It is possible, but very, very difficult, and I'd definitely query the "many" bit of what you've read. The point is that naturally commercial law isn't everyone's cup of tea - the subject matter, the hours and so on dissuade a lot of people. On top of that, a lot of people really don't...
Always worth remembering that a lot of lawyers don't put their GDL/LPC provider on their Linkedin - just where they did their BA and/or MA. A quick flick through the lawyers I know on Linkedin shows most of them didn't bother entering their LPC/GDL on their profile.
I found Oxford's advice to be pretty solid: https://www.careers.ox.ac.uk/legal-case-study-interviews/
Do the two practice case studies on TCLA just to get a feel for them in general, I would also suggest.
Mods - please move this to the appropriate subforum if I haven't posted it in the right area.
Hi guys! I recently secured a TC at an MC firm, having completed their VS. This was the first assessment center & VS that I did, and I came from a non-law, non-business, non-economics background &...
Yes to both answers, in my experience.
1) This is generally fine, as long as the firm has at least some expertise in it. So if it’s ranked band 4 by chambers, then naturally don’t go for that, but if it’s band 2 instead of 1, it should be fine. Since you say they’re “well known” for it, you...
