That’s great. For anyone interested in this or wants to write it up for applications... The Law Society last week released various guides on the impact of uncertainty/Brexit/no Brexit and a broader guide on Brexit for law firms.
I don’t have it to hand, but if you googled “Brexit Law Society”...
@Zahra just to plug the final gap to question 5 and the detailed comments from @Jaysen, the LPC is split into 2 stages. Stage 1 is Core Practice areas and skills with Stage 2 being the vocational electives (I.e Finance, Family, etc).
The SRA will grant exemptions from parts of the LPC or even...
Yes very popular question, for a number of reasons. I know of a firm where this is a mandatory question in all VS/TC interviews. They are heavily sector focused.
For them they don’t care which region/country you mention. It’s your reasons, and being able to link it back to their sectors and...
Sorry to hear that. Keep going!! Easier said than done. But that seems to me to be the bigger challenge than completing applications and attending ACs. Keep up the mental positivity as you’re doing really well!
I'm not @Jaysen, but here you go @Daniel Boden - the text of the article:
Macfarlanes introduces “radically different” work allocation system
Macfarlanes has overhauled its processes surrounding work allocation after lawyers informed management that the issue should be high up on the firm’s...
No cover letter required from what I understand.
Yes, no London option for a direct TC, which is a shame. I suspect they’ll try to fill all from the summer scheme.
Yes I agree it’s different firm to firm. And most make it clear on their website.
Just to clarify I meant on the basis post VS application only. Where the firms allows a second application within the same cycle for a TC. Is it worth reapplying ...
Thought I’d revive this and ask a question.
Where firms allow, if you’ve been rejected, is it sensible to re apply for a direct TC??
Obviously after trying to revise the application and improve it.
How likely is the direct TC app to be successful? Anyone heard of it happen...
I've found myself in a similar position in the past.
As Hazal has said it will depend on each firm. I think the accepted view is that there is a need more "legal" experience for direct TC applications than VS. But again some firms (like a few of the Magic circle) require no legal experience...
Not taking part, so not sure in what context these topics are coming up, but re Data Protection I would suggest:
1. Law society guidance: https://www.lawsociety.org.uk/support-services/practice-management/advice-and-guidance-on-gdpr-compliance/
From memory they have a really good 40 page guide...
Ah ok. @Oliver Gilliland I asked because NRF had a weird/interesting question a few years ago for a competition. I remember friends talking about it - it was comparing the firm to a F1 racing team. From what they said being involved, it was essentially getting at service delivery...
I agree with Jaysen. Tempting though it maybe, don't mention something artificial. Be genuine. Sometimes the interviewer just wants to gage personality rather than a competency.
... In an interview I had this as a question once. Before I could back up my answer and spin it into a positive, the...
