Completely untrue. I was told this as well, particularly at a larger firm - “why would they make you a trainee if they can keep you on cheaper as a paralegal!” and comments like that. The extensive hands-on experience you get from being a paralegal will be an asset to you in your applications...
It really can take weeks and mean nothing either way. All it takes is a partner being busy or on leave and before you know it you’re three weeks down the line. If you’re using a recruiter just nudge them once a week for an update and keep on looking in the meantime.
You absolutely have not ruined your career or your life. It may look a little bit different than you had imagined, but this isn’t 1950. You have a TC lined up, which is testament to your tenacity, your knowledge and your ability to excel. Being pregnant does not change that in the slightest...
I wouldn’t tbh. Partners are super busy, and frankly they are often even quite far removed from the juniors at their own firm, let alone from you. Unless you’ve spoken to them personally before I would just let it go.
I don’t have any practical advice to give but just wanted to say that you really don’t need to feel like you have to explain that precautions were taken. There is no blame to be assigned. These things unfortunately happen - two of my friends became pregnant despite taking all necessary...
Absolutely. One of the paralegals in a different department sent a speculative email to my firm and he got his position that way. Never any harm I think :)
Jessica has given a great answer but just to give some perspective, I really regret never doing anything fun with my hair and now I’m too far in to do it so I’d really recommend giving it a go! I remember discussing this with a hairdresser a while back and he suggested doing a split dye, where...
You can always ask but be prepared for them to say no if it is the last slot.
Perhaps go for a short walk before to wake you up a bit? I understand it’s a far from ideal time but unfortunately there’s also times in practice when you have meetings at stupid times so it may be one of those times...
I’d ring them up tomorrow and have them confirm via email. Chances are you’ll be able to join, worst case scenario you’re delayed by a few days. I’m sure they’ve accounted for that in a post-COVID world. Just give them sufficient notice that they can help make arrangements for a possible WFH...
I did my LLM at UCL (2018-2019) - not very helpful in terms of studying there as an undergraduate but I do know the campus quite well. In case you need a back up :)
I have no idea what a problem question would entail but I doubt it’ll be highly technical. I would expect it to be more testing of soft skills (attention to detail, time management, etc). I could be wrong - I’ve been a DR paralegal for almost 3 years but I was never given a problem question like...
