Thanks! I brought it forward as early as I could. Not as early as they wanted but the suggested dates would be when I was actually sitting proctored exams and I cannot be in two places at once! Instead I brought it forward to a day where I have a 24 hour take away assessment so I'll just do the...
Has anyone ever had a law firm call them to bring an interview forward before?
It happened to me earlier today - I had asked for my AC to be after the 18th due to exams. However the law firm called me today to ask if there is anyway I could do the interview earlier as they recruit on a rolling...
It varies, some workshops might only need a couple of hours prep some might need more like 6.
If I am honest I wouldn't recommend part time LPC study with a full time job to anyone. It's very time intensive, and I am someone that worked almost full time during a full time LLB and I've worked...
Hi,
I’m a current ULaw LPC student - in my second year as a part time student.
All exams at ULaw are open book. Including the MCQs.
There are often exemplar answers given to more difficult workshop tasks and points to note for mock exams.
The only thing I would really question is why the...
I always bring a notebook and pen, but those are in my handbag at all times so not particular to ACs. I've always found that if anything is required it is provided but its never a bad thing to be the person that always has a pen on them.
I have missed every single call I have ever received from a law firm - I work full time and study part time and my phone is always on do not disturb. In my experience they leave a voicemail and/or follow up with an email.
MoFo second stage invite!! Honestly thought that was my worst performance of all three interviews/ACs I had this week so not what I expected at all! Actually in shock what a way to end the week.
This is going to vary from firm to firm. Sometimes I expand and use the same one - this is in interviews where the person interviewing me hasn’t actually seen my application or where the application gives me ample space to actually give all the reasons however usually it has such a short word...
Personally I think the best/strongest answer to this is the honest answer. Take some time to reflect on what is unique to you or a particularly strong attribute. Is it your work ethic demonstrated through a job and studies, is it your ability to balance many things at once, is it that you...
Just because it was oral or written for one person doesn’t mean it will be the same for yourself. TW ACs have been running for a little while and continue over the next few weeks so I wouldn’t be surprised if they had various different commercial exercises over that time to protect the integrity...
Yes I probably should have caveated my answer to say the only reason I got unpaid leave is all my annual leave had been used up due to LPC exams, who needs an actual break anyway. If I had annual leave allowance left I would have been expected to use that.
This is going to vary for people depending on their employer. Unpaid leave is entirely at the discretion of the employer. All you can do is ask.
I’ve previously had unpaid leave for internships from two different employers. And have had unpaid leave to undertake ACs/Interviews. I’ve been very...
As far as I am aware this varies from firm to firm. Some will retrospectively pay or reimburse, some only if you are still part way through the course, others won’t at all.
You have annual leave so use it! The only thing I would caveat in this situation is to check your current employment contract - can you work elsewhere i.e. can you do a vac scheme or will you have to ask for permission. It’s not unusual to have a clause either in your employment contact or t&c’s...
Have you logged back in to the apply4law portal and checked there’s been no response - sometimes emails end up in junk folders that auto delete.
I know people have heard back already but stage 2 ACs are still on going.
No problem, I suppose the important thing to highlight is why thats relevant to you applying to their London office, for example I have had some success at least got past initial app with a few west-coast HQ US law firms, and on the face of it the fact they are California HQ might not be at all...
If I were to do this, using your litigation award as an example, I would mention the award won in the US, then link it back to the UK office by saying something like this translates to the London office as there is also a strong litigation team as evidence by ranking or something similar...
"Should the Principles come into conflict, those which safeguard the wider public interest (such as the rule of law, and public confidence in a trustworthy solicitors' profession and a safe and effective market for regulated legal services) take precedence over an individual client's interests...
Argh, we've got this though! Even just knowing I'm not alone in trying to balance too much helps. Good luck for next week!
I'm definitely counting down until March 17th for this LPC assessment period to be over for me...
