Hi @BuddyingLawyer744,
While I can't advise on the firms' tracking policies regarding the completion of Forage experiences, I'd say that there are definitely a few pros to completing them:
You can use the experience as a way to demonstrate your interest in a specific practice area at a firm...
Hi @Jamtaz12,
Good question!
I'd try to pick two to three USPs of the firm and link each of them to an extracurricular experience of yours.
You may find it helpful to follow a structure similar to this one:
Pick an extra-curricular activity, being as specific as possible in terms of...
I would not say so! As another community member has kindly said, the applications opened only a week ago - this is still very early, even in light of the rolling deadline. Good luck!
Hi @Fitzroy,
First things first, huge congratulations on securing an assessment centre. It's a huge achievement!
I can give you a couple of general suggestions that would be applicable to pretty much any AC at a commercial law firm.
For motivational questions, I would focus on striking a...
Hi @jdr01,
This is a very fair question.
In terms of funding for the SQE, have you explored the option of taking out a postgraduate loan? A lot of firms now structure their SQE programmes as an LLM/ master's, which would make you eligible for the extra funding - this would ease the pressure...
Hey @WillKitchen,
I was also deciding between multiple offers. On top of @ZNadeem's wonderful advice, I would also say that you'll instinctively gravitate towards one firm over another. I tried to imagine what it would feel like coming into the office every day for (at least!) the two years of...
Good question! I'd say that the majority of assessment centres for spring vacation schemes start in mid-January and continue through late February. In March, you might still have the occasional spring VS AC, but they would mostly be for the summer intake.
I'd say that February and March are...
Hi @m-m06,
It's an interesting dilemma that you're facing, and I completely understand the difficulty of balancing a 'safer' choice with a firm that you think you prefer more.
It's completely okay to take time to decide what path you want to pursue. I would definitely try and extend the...
Hi @futureharveyspecter,
What an interesting question! Based on its phrasing, I would say that you should pick one practice area or sector and focus on it exclusively. In terms of the word count, I'd say anything in the range of 300-500 words should be okay. Good luck!
Hi @studenttolawyer,
Excited to follow along your journey! I love the detailed updates - making commercial awareness a part of your daily routine is a very good decision that will 100% pay off in the long term. Keep us posted on how you get on :)
Hi @tcla02,
I also just checked the firm's website, and it seems that the applications are non-rolling. I usually assume that if they were rolling, the firm would mention this either in the Apply section or the FAQs, and this does not seem to be the case with Dechert.
Hi @hannahmcgee60,
Let's break this down step by step!
For the first question 'Tell us why a career in corporate law interests you? Tell us why you want to be a corporate lawyer, what appealed to you about a career in law', I would focus solely on commercial law. I would pick 2-3 points...
@Bread 100% agree with Zainab on this! An ongoing lawsuit also provides you with an opportunity to analyse what the potential outcome might be, and how this would affect the industry/ sector in a broader sense.
Hi @zara elles,
Great questions!
I kept my work experience the same. I made sure that each entry is as strong as it can possibly be (clarity, level of detail, structure, ease of understanding), but I did not necessarily tailor them to every single firm that I applied to.
To answer your...
Wow, it seems like you are smashing it in terms of preparation!
Going into this cycle with a clear strategy will definitely be a plus. Thanks for the update!
Hi @tobywstress,
I would take the firm's 2:1 benchmark at face value :) In terms of the latter point, I completely agree with @ZNadeem - getting an open day invitation is unlikely to change the academic requirements. Hope this helps!
Hi Ritu,
Welcome to the forum! Starting at LLM must be very exciting - is there a particular area that you are hoping to specialise in? Definitely take the time to settle into your new course and make new friends - LSE is a great university!
Wishing you the best of luck this application...
Hi @lilymawe1,
Congratulations on submitting your first application of this cycle - looking forward to following your journey through this thread!
Best of luck :)
This is good advice, @lawyersum! This is absolutely correct - often, you can identify the issues a law firm 'cares about' the most by seeing what thought leadership articles it has published within a specific sector.
