I know there is a lot going on at the firm as they move to the Broadfield brand - so it maybe delayed because of that. I would drop them an email and see if they can give you any insight via there.
Some interesting news for those considering Herbert Smith Freehills. I feel old as I remember their first merger!

1) I don't think you have to compare firms but I do think you have to be specific in why the firm is different to others you have applied to.
3) No - I don't think they need to be connected, but it won't be an issue if they are at the same time.
I don't think it will work that way unfortunately as they will have processed your first application on some level and therefore it will have been considered. I think if you reapplied, you would be automatically rejected for a second application within the same cycle/for the same vacancy.
No - it’s fine to repeat that connection if both questions are asked. There is a slightly different emphasis where you are talking about other firms rather than their firm.
I think being specific where you can is helpful and persuasive, but there is a balance to it. I think you can just reference one (possibly two firms) but ensure they are most closely aligned to the firm you are applying to.

Firms may be able to allow you to start earlier, but many will have already filled their earlier vacancies and may not be able to bring your start date forward at the same time.
This is not uncommon though and many future trainees find themselves with time available before their training...
I will always recommend updating and refining applications. I don’t think you can assume that because an application was successful before it will be again.
In addition, it’s important to show more recent evidence of your experiences and pursuit of the career, so I would ensure anything you...
Yes - this can be something many firms factor into their decisions when inviting people to open days. It’s difficult to say whether it’s common, but it happens enough.
You’d know before the 20th if you got on the open day though.
And if you did get on the open day, that have said you have got a spot on the assessment centre, so you wouldn’t have to worry about when (or possibly if) you applied.
