They aren’t expecting anything in particular but only for you to identify a small number of things that make you unique/stand out from other candidates. For some candidates that might be more motivational based, for others it might be their hobbies. Really think about your USPs.
I don’t think this needs to be any more than something along the lines of “Having enjoyed X module at university, I am interested in Y practice area” and then really going into more specific detail about why that practice area at that specific firm would work well for you.
When you say “only” the skills, I don’t think this is sufficient. You will need to focus on explaining your extra curriculars and also the achievement (and why you think it’s your greatest achievement).
Given the world count, I don’t think it is necessary to link these to the firm or the skills...
As the question is asking you about DLA’s programme specifically, I think it is important to tailor it to the opportunity with the firm.
The key part is identifying the individual challenges you will experience rather than what generally any trainee would find challenging. The “for you” part is...
The only time I can see this being an issue is if they have asked on the application form, at interview, or at offer stage and you have not disclosed this.
If they haven’t asked it, then I don’t expect them to retract on this basis.
1) it might be in the process of being renewed
Or
2) the firm think it’s too expensive to advertise in (firms pay quite a lot of money to have those profiles)
I’ll check what resources we have at TCLA and will come back to you ASAP.
Depends on the firm’s policy. Some firms are allowing resits (usually only once though) while others do have a term in the offer that you have to pass on first sitting. Many firms used to have this for the LPC too though.
I have seen this work well in application/interviews, and I have also seen it not work at all.
You have to focus more on the characteristic (eg perseverance) rather than the illness and also focus on the growth/learning/your efforts from the circumstances. Sometimes people just focus on the...
You don’t have to directly connect everything back to the firm, although indirectly you should include elements that the firm will be interested in.
The first thing is to think about what you have already provided in terms of information elsewhere in the application form, and try to avoid...
It will depend on the firm - so it’s something to ask them.
Some firms will take you on as a second year but may choose to defer any TC conversion process until you are in your penultimate year.
Some firms will bring you through the recruitment process but defer your entry to your third year...
It doesn’t really apply to law, let alone other industries. The perception that law firms (and other employers) have a preference for straight out of uni types is namely where they dominate applications received.
Roll on Friday is probably one of the most far from reality environments in the legal sector that you can possibly get. It’s purposely provocative and the articles, comments, threads, discussion boards all play up to that.
I don’t think it really is one or the other. Committing to the GDL can show a commitment to pursuing a legal career, but it is by no means a requirement for the firms you have mentioned.
As it says more suitable, I don’t think it’s an issue here and that ultimately you could move across to the other scheme, so just select the date that works best for you right now.
