I personally have never made that assumption and I always tackled an commercial news that was interested to me and that resonated with me and the firm's excellence in a specific field. I think that as long as the piece of commercial news you want to talk about has these criteria than you are...
Mitigating circumstances are definitely taken into account so I would not worry about this. As long as you are able to articulate very well how the former have impacted your grades, and highlight how you managed to graduate with a first class, I am sure they would appreciate that. However, if...
I think it is really hard to answer questions like this cause it truly depends on the nature and the values of the firm. That is why it is important to do these kind of tests with the a sheet of paper outlining the values of the firms so that you can answer accordingly to what a trainee would do...
I think that you can apply for a direct TC this year, I am assuming that the year has passed. I do not think that the start date would impede on your chances on getting the TC, I am sure that the quality of your application (which I am sure is top-notch anyway) will be way more important for...
What I used to do was:
Mention practice areas the firm excels at.
Mention any personal interaction I had with the firm (if any but this is not required in the slightest) like open days/ insight days or people I spoke to that were comfortable with me mentioning them in my application
Talk about...
I totally agree with Jessica on what she said, I think you should try and focus on different aspects of the firm in the questions and the cover letter. It might be good to mention opportunities/experiences/volunteering experiences you have not mentioned in the application questions in the cover...
@NJS I think it does not work against you especially if you ask the person if you can mention them in your application, however, I do believe that it is not a game changer, it does not distinguish you from other people applying to the same firm. So I would make sure that the person you mention...
Hey @Shreya Verma, thank you for the nice comment, but I totally understand how imposter syndrome can be detrimental to your progress. I myself was so anxious when I was applying to law firms cause I was so adamant that none of them would have offered me a place since I was an international...
I am assuming all law firms will pay attention to your grades, but if you have exceptional extracurricular and experiences, that might also work and allow you to pass the application stage but it is worth contacting grad recruitment, at least you know and you do not waste your time!
Good luck...
I agree with you, in these kind of questions it is important to specifically answer the question and the question does not ask about your experiences and the skills you have. It directly asks what skills you think an accomplished solicitor at Stephenson Harwood has. What I would do is focus on...
Please do, it is really amazing to see how you have managed to learn from your summer scheme and you did not let the rejection bring you down, this is exactly the kind of perseverance lawyers are made of so congrats to you!
Hey @antheaf, I think you are still in good timing for the winter scheme now, however if you feel like you would have a greater chance with the summer scheme then I would focus on that. I would exclude the direct tc, especially if you are still in university as it is very competitive and Hogan...
I would not necessarily say so because they tend to wait if they are not satisfied with the quality of the applicants. I applied on the 20th of December and I manage to get the SVS offer and I knew some people applied later than that and got it too so just make sure you have the best application...
