I would recommend applying earlier but last year I applied 2 hours before the deadline and got to the partner interview so don’t panic about it being too late or not submitting because it’s too late! It’s always worth a shot!
Just got the VI invite for Simmons. I did it last year so definitely not hopefully bc I was hopeless at the tests, I’ll be interested to see how the written exercise is!
What counts as “legal” work experience? And how, as a non-law student, would you get any without a GDL/Vac Scheme?
For the record I’m currently working as a Court clerk in family law so I don’t know if that really counts?
Does doing a vac scheme count as a second job? I’m working full time (and still on probation) so I don’t know how to broach the subject of vac schemes with my managers and whether I would contractually be able to do them? I imagine this is organisation specific but if anyone has advice with...
I’m in the same position! I just started a job as a court clerk and I’m still on probation so I know I won’t be able to take the time off I need for a winter vac scheme!!
I’m actually just going to apply to vac schemes and see if I get past the first round then deal with getting time off...
This is a bit of a weird question but does anyone have any motivational tips on how to write apps when in full time employment. I’ve just started my new job and I feel exhausted when I come back home and definitely not in the mood to write and research apps. Guess I’m looking for some...
I got to the partner interview last cycle and they had the same question!
I chose to talk about the gentrification of a Latin American shopping centre in London which was linked to an organisation I volunteered with to protect it!
I think the important thing is to be genuinely passionate...
I've come across this question in a VS app If applicable, what do you do to keep up to date with your foreign language skills?, is this only for language students or can I talk about my Spanish skills (e.g volunteering at a charity doing translation work with service users)
What is the best way to find out about a firm’s main practice areas? I know Legal 500 is good for top ranked but these aren’t always directly correlated with main practice areas! I’m particularly interested in firms with a good litigation/disputes department :)
Sorry if this question is silly but I was just wondering what jobs would look good on an application or if it really doesn’t matter what you do as long as you have transferable skills? I ask as I’ve just been offered a position in admin working for HMCTS.
Thank you both for your responses! I was definitely thinking along those lines but wasn’t sure what the question was really asking but this makes a lot of sense :)
When a firm asks you to discuss a legal case that caught your attention in their application form should the case relate to their key areas/be a case they're involved in or is it better to go with a case you're genuinely passionate about?
