Dive into Reed Smith’s transportation practice to see how their legal advice drives the world’s largest shipping, aviation, and logistics businesses, and how trainees can make their mark.
I don't know much about how it works in practice (I didn't get that far and it's often quite hush-hush), but I imagine you can. I think it just depends on whether you're happy to go to a different area, whether they have space and whether they want you in their team.
It could be just an anomaly. That's magnified when a firm takes on few trainees, which often makes it seems worse than it really is. It could just be the case that too many trainees applied to the same department and one or two didn't quite cut it. If that's the case, it's not a big deal...
I agree with all of the above. You did allude to this, but I'd also add that you need to clearly demonstrate your motivation for commercial law. If you do this well, you can somewhat make up for limited commercial/legal work experiences, especially if you are applying for a vacation scheme. You...
That's horrible - I feel for you! I'l leave it to others to comment on prep time, but the good thing is there should be plenty of overlap in your prep, especially competencies/motivation for commercial law/commercial awareness provided they are both interviews. In theory, you may also be able to...
Yep it's good to use phrasing like that to demonstrate you've answered the second part of the question. You can add the words: 'I believe' to make it a little less forward.
Here is our Brexit cheatsheet!
On w/c 1 July, we’ll be releasing our next course: ‘The Aspiring Lawyer's Guide to Brexit’. This will be available to premium subscribers. For this course, we’re partnering with Peter Watson, a former stockbroker and recruiter who has advised some of the world’s...
And Slaughters is the next firm in the magic circle to up its pay (92k): https://www.legalcheek.com/2019/06/slaughter-and-may-raises-newly-qualified-salary-to-92k-plus-bonus-in-deal-that-sees-it-join-the-100-club/
Welcome Rick, as Dan said if you ever have questions, feel free to create a post and we'll do our best to help. And don't worry we can work on your commercial awareness :)
I am actually no longer working at my law firm, I definitely couldn't balance the two!
Michael Gove has just been eliminated from the race. After Sajid Javid's elimination this morning, it's now for party members to decide between Jeremy Hunt and Boris Johnson.
There isn't much to report as it wasn't a very good debate. Too many talking at once and lots of posturing. Boris stayed fairly reserved, Gove was given a lot of talking time and Stewart (who was knocked out yesterday) was cut off quite often. Aside from Stewart, they're all keeping No Deal on...
For those more interested in a mid market firm, Pinsent Masons just upped its NQ pay: https://www.legalcheek.com/2019/06/pinsent-masons-bumps-london-nq-pay-to-72500/. It's a good firm in that space along with Eversheds Sutherland and would offer more reasonable hours, if that's what you're...
Hi Gareth,
It's a tricky question. It may help to think of your answer as similar to the last "Why me?" paragraph you would normally write in a cover letter. You just want to tie it further to Paul Hastings.
I like the general strategy, just be sure to be specific to Paul Hastings in your...
FYI: The second Tory leadership debate will be taking place at 8pm on BBC One. I'll see if I can write up a few highlights (especially what we can expect for Brexit negotiations) tomorrow morning.
You might want to go beyond just mentioning their mandatory seat in disputes. As @Romiras said, many firms will offer this or they'll provide a means to undertake contentious work in another department/via a course to satisfy the SRA's requirements. Perhaps you could add something else about...
Hi All,
I'm interviewing a former recruiter/stockbroker for a new podcast episode tomorrow. The focus of the episode will be on improving your commercial awareness ahead of interviews/assessment centres (as this is what he works on now).
If anyone has any particular questions they'll like me...
You may find this helpful: https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/forum/threads/question-about-cvs-work-experience-on-applications.1447/#post-11443. Your phrasing sounds fine to me.
