@esther18 Congratulations on making such a momentous decision! It is good that you came to your decision fairly swiftly as it shows that deep down you knew what was right for you :)
Both are outstanding firms and you and @Romiras were very lucky people - please do stay involved with TCLA as I...
Hi @jamesbaillie, congratulations on progressing this far with a great firm!
I do not have particular experience with Dechert's written exercise, but if it takes the form of a case study then I have written some advice on things to do in preparation, including in the assessment before you start...
You may find it useful to consider side by side the list of law firms which recruit on a rolling basis and those which hire directly for TCs and you should spot the overlaps - this information is from last year but is likely still accurate for the most part :)
My personal view would be that this is possible if the experience is really an excellent way of demonstrating the relevant skill. In general it is better to keep this as recent as possible but if the absolute best answer is from school for one question, I would be okay using it!
I think that this is okay to say :) It depends how broad the question is though - if it is, 'When have you demonstrated teamwork?' then it may seem odd to say that you cannot think of an example off the top of your head but proceed to outline how you would demonstrate teamwork if you were faced...
Honestly I gave a slightly cheesy word that initially came to mind as something that others may not say but was still a good quality that I believed I had... I said 'loyal'.
With hindsight, the choice of word makes me cringe a little as it can also have negative connotations (e.g. 'loyal' to...
It's a tricky one, although I do think that ordinarily a direct request by a partner would most likely take precedence over that of a senior associate. Firms don't tend to boast so much of a non-hierarchical structure that they would consider an associate akin to a partner - you can bet that...
You have already been provided with some excellent advice here! Last year I recall that the day consisted of a partner interview, multiple case study exercises and a written exercise that was based on neither a commercial or legal topic - I hope that helps!
I am sure you are very well prepared and nerves will get you through the interview!
Depending on how sick you are, firms are supposed to offer accommodations or the opportunity to reschedule if you provide enough notice, although not all firms do this. Covid could be a reason that they do...
Adding to this, I have heard anecdotally that firms sometimes like to hire tax associates from in-house lawyers at Big 4, but other than that I think that the advice on the breadth of training you would receive in private practice is probably right. That said, congratulations on a great...
Posting my response to your same question on the other thread here as well in case you see it here first :) Good luck for the interview and let us know how it goes!!
@lawnoob this is a great question - apologies that your thread on Saturday went unanswered for a couple days! Check out my response here in relation to how you can answer this question :)
Congratulations @lawnoob and good luck for your interview!!
It is hard to know whether this will be a competency-based interview although I would be prepared for that eventuality with some STAR answers!
In response to what you should do if you get the question, 'do you know how to do XYZ?'...
Based on my experience on the PGDL (which I am assuming would be similar to the LPC although someone can correct me if I'm wrong), my guess is that the main thing you will miss out on is the potential of making friends which is nowhere near as big a deal as it is at university. Sure, I have made...
