Yeah I'm in the same situation, always apply for everything on the deadline.
I'm not sure about the firms you've mentioned, but I've been put decently successful so far at some others so try not to worry. At the end of the day, they want the best applicants, so they'd be shooting themselves in...
A VI with Slaughters for the VS? I applied as well and got invited to a live virtual interview but never did a VI. Are you sure it's not a live interview?
If you're at university, try reaching out to the careers service. they often do short sessions or interview practices and they might be able to point something out that you're not aware you're doing
I'd say 700 sounds fine. After all, they like you to be concise, and if you've said everything you want to say, there's no point waffling.
However, maybe go over your cover letter again and make sure you've said enough about the three key sections of any cover letter: why commercial law, why...

But in hindsight that was probably silly of me because they probably process applications in batches. So don't...
It was a VS (the summer one) and I got fast-tracked from the Pathfinder. I think the firm has been running all the ACs for the VS this week and next week. There were people in my AC applying for the spring scheme as well.
Had an AC with Linklaters yesterday and got an email today asking to schedule a call about the outcome. Is it good or bad that they've made the decision so quickly?!
